

Dr. Cyrus J deGerome, 100 years old, passed away peacefully on April 21st, 2016 with his family by his side. He was nicknamed “Sam” at an early age and was the last surviving sibling of the deGerome family, which included five sisters and two brothers. All but two family members lived to be in their 90’s or 100’s. Louise Willex of Stuart, FL lived to be 102. Dr. Harry deGirolamo of Stuart, FL lived to be 97. Dr. James deGerome of Delray Beach, FL lived to be 92. Rachel Renna from St. Peterborough, NH lived to be 90. His other two sisters had rheumatic fever as children and died in their 60’s.
“Sam” was born in New York City, on January 13th 1916. He grew up in West Orange, NJ. He graduated with honors from New York University followed by dental school at the University Buffalo. He was a distinguished student and received the George B Snow award for academic achievement. He was also awarded the Chicago Pediatric Dental Award.
He served in the Public Health Service during WWII and was stationed at the Marine Hospital in Staten Island, NY. He practiced dental surgery in East Orange, Short Hills, Chatham and Summit NJ.
He was a member of the Rock Spring Golf Club in West Orange, NJ and the Mariner Sands Country Club of Stuart, FL.
He is predeceased by his loving wife of 48 years, Frances Trimarche deGerome. He is survived by his loving daughter Penelope Peterson of Vero Beach, FL, 2 grandchildren, Samantha Lynch of Vero Beach, FL and H. Bradley Peterson of Winter Park, FL, and 4 great grandchildren.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, April 27, 2016 from 10:00-11:00 AM at Aycock Funeral Home, 505 South Federal Highway, Stuart with a Funeral Service to begin at 11:00 AM. Entombment will follow at Fernhill Memorial Gardens, Stuart.
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations be made in Cyrus’s name to Harbor Chase Assisted Living, 4150 Indian River Blvd, Vero Beach, FL 32967 or VNA Hospice of the Treasure Coast, 1110 35th Ln #1, Vero Beach, FL 32960.
