With profound sadness, we announce the passing of our beloved mother, Donna Lee Dotson, a loving mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, who passed away unexpectedly on April 9, 2024, at the age of 87.
Born on September 10, 1936, in Charleston, West Virginia, Donna was the daughter of Claud Merton Bumgarner and Edith Virginia McMillin. She grew up in New Haven, West Virginia and graduated from Wahama High School and Saint Joseph’s School of Nursing in Parkersburg, WV.
In 1957, Donna married Richard Earl Dotson, and together they raised three children: Lisa Renee, Stacy Lynn, and Richard Scott. They built a life together in Florida and spent countless summers with friends and relatives in New Haven, West Virginia. She tirelessly nurtured and guided her children from managing a bustling schedule of dance, cheerleading, and sports activities to instilling values and lessons that will last a lifetime.
An Operating Room Nurse for over 40 years, Donna touched many lives and enjoyed friends and family in Florida and West Virginia throughout her entire life. A true “foodie” before the term even existed, she loved creating delicious meals for her family, with her famous chicken casserole and gooey butter cake being two of many cherished childhood memories. She loved spending time with her loved ones, sharing stories and making memories. Her absence leaves an irreplaceable void in our lives, but her spirit will live on through the countless lives she touched.
Donna was preceded in death by her husband, Dick, in 2013. She is survived by her children and their spouses, Lisa & Patrick, Stacy & Jeff and Scott & Shea, her grandchildren, Megan, Jeremy, Cami, Carsen, Cooper and Keaton, and her brother and wife, Eddie & Janet Bumgarner.
Beyond her immediate family, Donna leaves behind a legacy of love and friendship. Those who knew her will remember her for her welcoming smile, her kind words, and her unwavering support. She possessed a quiet strength that allowed her to weather life's storms with grace and dignity and will be remembered for her gentle nature, her love of family, and enormous heart. She will be missed terribly!
A Celebration of Life service will be held at Graham Cemetery in West Virginia this summer
