Edward Rao

Edward "Ed" Rao, beloved husband, father, brother, coach, mentor, and friend, passed away on August 25, 2026, at the age of 76.

Born in Providence, Rhode Island, on August 13, 1950, Ed carried with him the values and spirit of New England throughout his life. He later made his home in the Boston area during the late 1980s before relocating to Hobe Sound, Florida, in 1997, where he became a cherished member of the community and touched countless lives through his generosity, friendship, and love of youth sports.

Ed shared a loving marriage with his wife, Susan (Glennon) Rao, and together they built a life grounded in love, family, loyalty, and laughter.

Ed's greatest source of pride was his family. He was a devoted father to Ted Rao and Alex Rao, and nothing made him happier than watching them achieve their goals. He proudly celebrated Ted's graduation from Albany Law School and his admission to the New York State Bar, milestones that reflected the hard work and determination he so admired. He likewise treasured the opportunity to follow Alex's journey with the Notre Dame Fighting Irish baseball team, delighting in every game, every season, and every achievement. Seeing his sons succeed brought him immeasurable joy and was among the greatest blessings of his life.

After a successful career with Recourse Communications, Inc., Ed retired in the spring of 2019 to spend more time with family and to follow the Notre Dame Fighting Irish baseball team, proudly cheering on Alex throughout his collegiate career. Those years provided some of his most treasured memories.

Baseball was one of Ed's great passions. Whether he was playing, watching, coaching, or enthusiastically discussing the game, he was happiest at the ballpark. A lifelong fan of both the Boston Red Sox and the Chicago Cubs, he rarely missed an opportunity to cheer for his teams or share his love of the sport with others.

Known throughout Hobe Sound as "Coach Ed," he dedicated countless hours to youth sports and mentoring young athletes. He coached the Hobe Sound Strikers girls soccer teams and later the countless Hobe Sound Little League teams, earning the respect and affection of generations of players and families. His encouragement, patience, and belief in every child helped build confidence both on and off the field.

Ed was also a man who appreciated life's simple pleasures. He loved a good cigar and a cold Guinness and was always ready to welcome neighbors and friends into his garage or

backyard to enjoy both. Conversations with Ed often stretched long into the evening, filled with laughter, stories, and the easy camaraderie that came so naturally to him.

An avid reader, Ed cherished his extensive book collection and was seldom far from his next great read. He had a deep appreciation for the arts and particularly enjoyed British mysteries and comedies, always eager to share a recommendation or discuss a favorite novel, actor, or series.

More than anything, Ed will be remembered for his kindness, generosity, sense of humor, and unwavering devotion to family and friends. His presence made people feel welcome, valued, and at home.

Ed was predeceased by his parents, Anthony Rao and Michelina Montecalvo Rao.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Susan Rao; his sons, Ted Rao and Alex Rao; his brothers, Jim Rao and Tommy Rao; and countless friends, neighbors, former players, and family members whose lives were enriched by knowing him.

Though he has left us far too soon, the lessons he taught, the lives he touched, and the love he shared will endure. His legacy lives on in the family he cherished, the athletes he mentored, the friendships he nurtured, and the memories that will forever bring smiles to those who loved him.
