Elaine Katherine Wieler

Born March 13, 1948 to Katherine Merk Opsal and Kolbjorn Nils Opsal in Jamaica New York, she was the middle child, with older sister Lillian Opsal Clarke and younger sister Doris Opsal McMahon. She cherished her time on Long Island raising racing pigeons with her father and singing as her mother played piano and her father played the accordion.

She met the love of her life Gary Louis Wieler on a bus to Jones Beach when he left his swim trunks back at the bus stop. They became best friends but it was only on prom night when they each had other dates that they realized their true love and quietly held hands under the table. They married in Seaford, New York in 1969.

She graduated from Plainedge High School and went on to create her own business, Executive Assistance, serving private clients and condominiums on Jupiter Island. She and Gary lived life with gusto, making a bucket list and emptying the bucket - camping and traversing the country on Harley Davidsons, in motorhomes, on boats and in small planes.

She took immense pride in her children: New York Chef Brian Wieler (Melissa), and Austin, Texas Attorney Denise Wieler Bluestein (David); and in her grandchildren: Walter, Emily, Nathan & Olivia; as well as in her Norwegian heritage. They were all equally proud of “Grandma” as well!

A lifelong friend to all, she was always ready to jump in and help those in need. She was a dedicated volunteer for numerous causes including Jupiter Elementary School, Girl Scouts and Boy Scouts, the Jupiter Lighthouse and St. Christopher’s Church Bingo.

She loved to dance right up until the end and was always ready to break into song with many spirited hits including “You Are My Sunshine.”

For years, early mornings would find Elaine and Gary sharing coffee and shenanigans with their beloved Dunkin Donuts Crew. It would be impossible to find a more loving and supportive group than these strangers-turned-family who meet regularly to share life and laughter.

Elaine spent the past few years surrounded by the love and dedication of the Discovery Village Memory Care staff. As a resident, she was a cherished Norwegian firecracker, helping her fellow residents celebrate each day in some way.

Details regarding a celebration of life will be forthcoming. In lieu of any flowers or donations, the family asks that instead you reach out to someone in need to spread the sunshine, love and laughter that Elaine inspired wherever she went.
