Frederick Thomas "Rick" Moore, Jr., D.M.D., 84, of Stuart, Florida, passed away on October 28, 2026, following a brief illness.
Born in Boston, Massachusetts, on May 24, 1942, to the late Alice and Frederick Moore, Rick was the eldest of three brothers. He grew up in West Springfield, Massachusetts, and graduated from Cathedral High School. He went on to attend the College of the Holy Cross and earned his dental degree from Tufts University School of Dental Medicine.
Following dental school, Rick proudly served four years in the United States Navy Dental Corps, spending two years at Subic Bay Naval Station in the Philippines and two years at the Naval Station in Newport, Rhode Island. He subsequently completed his residency in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at the State University of New York at Buffalo.
Rick established a successful oral and maxillofacial surgery practice in Western New York, with offices in Hamburg, East Aurora, and Dunkirk. Respected by his colleagues and devoted to his profession, he served as president of both the Western New York Society of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons and the New York State Society of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons. Following his years in private practice, Rick continued to share his knowledge and experience with the next generation of dental professionals, teaching oral surgery at Boston University's Henry M. Goldman School of Dental Medicine and the Medical University of South Carolina.
While Rick took great pride in his professional accomplishments, it was his family, friendships, and zest for life that truly defined him. Gregarious, quick-witted, and always ready with a story or a joke, Rick had a genuine curiosity about people. Whether speaking with an old friend or someone he had just met, he gave everyone his undivided attention. He asked questions, remembered the answers, and had a remarkable ability to make people feel valued. He also loved a spirited debate, particularly one in which everyone eventually came around to his point of view.
An avid sports enthusiast, Rick loved tennis, golf, skiing, and just about any sport he could play or watch. A devoted fan of the Buffalo Bills, Buffalo Sabres, and Boston Red Sox, he passed his passion for sports along to his children and grandchildren. Family vacations were rarely without an assortment of rackets, golf clubs, bicycles, or other sporting equipment. From summers on Pico Beach in Mattapoisett, Massachusetts, to years of family gatherings in Hilton Head, South Carolina, Rick created a lifetime of wonderful memories for those he loved.
A devout Catholic, Rick's deep and abiding faith was a guiding force throughout his life. He believed in the importance of family, friendship, generosity, and treating others with kindness and respect.
Above all, Rick was devoted to his family. He married Judith MacBarron on June 10, 1967, in Brockton, Massachusetts, beginning a marriage that spanned 59 years. Together, they built a life filled with family, friends, laughter, and adventure. Rick was a loving and proud father and an especially devoted grandfather. His three grandchildren held a special place in his heart, and he delighted in their accomplishments, their conversations, and simply being part of their lives.
Rick is survived by his beloved wife, Judith; his daughter, Melissa Schultz (Douglas), and son, Michael Moore; his grandchildren, Matthew and Camille Schultz and Logan Moore; and his brothers, Edward Moore (Maureen) and Robert Moore (Debbie).
Rick will be remembered for his infectious laugh, his wonderful sense of humor, his generosity, his unwavering faith, and the genuine love he had for his family and friends. He lived fully, loved deeply, and left those fortunate enough to know him with countless stories, wonderful memories, and a lasting example of a life well lived.
A memorial luncheon celebrating Rick's life will be held on Saturday, November 14, 2026, from 12:00 to 2:00 p.m. at The Yacht & Country Club in Stuart, Florida.
