

Gene Sherman Gray, 80, passed away peacefully at home on September 23, 2026, surrounded by his loving family. He was known for his faith, kindness, quick wit, generosity, and love of family and friends.
Gene was born in Elmira, New York, to Phyllis Sherman Gray and Donald Eugene Gray. Raised in the Methodist Church, Gene’s faith remained an important part of his life. Throughout the years, he served his church and community in many ways, giving generously of his time and talents.
He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend. He is survived by his loving wife, Stephanie Waldron Gray; daughter Heather Gray of Dallas, Georgia; son Matthew Gray, his wife, Tina, and their daughter, Mia, of Jupiter, Florida; and his siblings, Rebecca Gray Swatsburg (Peter) of Pennsylvania; Donald Eugene Gray Jr. (Bonnie) of Rhode Island; Gary Gray (Patty) of New York; and Susan Gray Champlain (Dana) of New York and many nieces, nephews and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Diane Gray Christianson.
Gene loved life, family, and adventure. A passionate Florida State Seminoles football fan, he especially enjoyed attending games with Heather and Matthew, both FSU graduates. He treasured time at the family cottage in the Finger Lakes of New York, as well as boating and riding snowmobiles and motorcycles. A true animal lover, he also enjoyed the companionship of his horses, dogs, and cats.
A dedicated pharmacist and entrepreneur, Gene owned and operated three pharmacies in Pennsylvania before moving to Florida, where he continued his career with Walgreens for 30 years. He was known for his dedication to helping others and the many friendships he formed throughout his career.
The family also extends heartfelt gratitude to everyone who cared for Gene and supported him and his family throughout his courageous journey.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in Gene’s memory to support Inclusion Body Myositis research through the Johns Hopkins Myositis Center.
