In the words of George’s son Brent….
“ it is with profound sadness that I share the news of the sudden passing of my Father, George Giese.
“Big G” or “Poppa Goose” as he was affectionately called, centered his life around goodness and humility. He was a gentle giant with gifted athletic abilities who was universally well-liked.
Scott summed it up best by asking me a simple question: what specific person do you know who has no enemies?
Our conclusion…Dad…he represented the rarest of breeds and spent his life being a great guy to all and an enemy to none.
I realize how humility served him so well and that he strived to keep things simple in an ever increasingly complex and often superficial world. In 2000, he cut bait from NYC’s rat race at the age of 60 and set up a comfortable life in south Florida with his wife, Linda. This new life encompassed all he needed. For 25 years, he enjoyed retirement: playing golf two to three times a week, working out in the gym and relishing his frequent trips to the local Publix. That, coupled with daily afternoon naps, made for a perfect life. It was all he needed and when you really think about it, it looks a lot like Utopia to me.
The world lost one of its good ones, but Heaven now shines brighter because of it.”
Rest in Peace dearest George. We all love you and will miss you and we will carry you in our hearts forever. Until we meet again….
