

Harry James Carroll of Hobe Sound, FL passed away on November 1, 2015 at the age of 79, at his home surrounded by family. Harry was born in Camden, NJ, served honorably in the US Army in Munich, Germany and was a longtime resident of Cherry Hill and Ocean City, NJ. He graduated from Rutgers University with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Business Administration. While living in Ocean City, he and his wife, Betty, owned and operated Carroll’s Deli, Carroll’s Too Ice Cream Parlor and the infamous Cherry-Lyn Boarding House, the backdrop of many cherished memories. Harry retired from the Cherry Hill Police Department, reaching the rank of Captain. His law enforcement career culminated when he attained his life-long goal of Chief of Police in both Windsor Locks and West Haven, CT. Harry and his longtime friend, Michael Santarpio, were the founding members of the Police Benevolent Association (PBA) Local #176 and served as President and Delegate through the years. Harry was a graduate of the FBI National Academy in Quantico, VA. A devoted husband and family man, Harry enjoyed fishing and cruising with Betty in their boat "Ridin Hi" at the Jersey Shore. He was an avid golfer and an active member of the Eaglewood Men’s Golfing Association. His passion for cars was clearly evident in his annual indulgence of a shiny new car. He is survived by the love of his life and soul mate of nearly 60 years, Elizabeth "Betty" Carroll of Hobe Sound, FL; loving daughters Donna Carroll Hill of Austin, TX, Lynda Carroll McFarland of Pasadena, MD and Elizabeth Jean Carroll (Carmen) DeGrazia of Berlin, NJ; cherished grandchildren: Stephanie McFarland, Tiffany (Joshua) Tryon, Kyle and Jacqueline Hill, Kimberly (Mike) Crowley, Christina (Michael) Bush, and Carmela DeGrazia; six great-grandchildren: Lesitona and Zechariah Tryon, Emma and Jack Crowley and Sophia and Adrianna Bush. Harry was preceded in death by his mother, Nellie Carroll-Hlopak, sisters Nancy and Beverly and great-grandson, Ethan Andrew Bush.
