Irene V Foley, 92, of Hobe Sound, FL, passed away peacefully on February 13, 2022, at her residence. Irene was born February 10, 1930, to Charles and Irene Chapman in East Paterson, NJ. She was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas F Foley, in 1998. They were longtime residents of Ridgewood, NJ, before moving to Hobe Sound, FL.
Irene was involved with Boy Scouts of America, serving as den mother to cub scouts in Ridgewood, NJ. Upon moving to Hobe Sound, Irene and her husband were actively involved in childhood literacy with a local agency. She loved playing tennis daily, bowling, playing cards, and going to Hobe Sound Beach. Irene was a lifelong book lover, and she passed on her love of reading to her children and her grandchildren.
In later years, Irene remained an avid bowler (with her beloved bowling team). She enjoyed playing cards with her good friend Elaine.
She loved animals…any kind, anywhere! Even on vacation she would feed any stray dogs that came to her, and they loved her for that. She volunteered at the Humane Society of the Treasure Coast in Palm City.
Irene is survived by her son Robert Foley, daughters Susan Bender (and husband Mark), Patricia Lane (and husband Spencer), and her five beloved grandchildren: Robert Thomas Foley, Tara Galore, Ryan Hergenhan, Alexander Lane, and Brittney Lane. Also two great-grandchildren, Simon and Emily. All will miss her greatly.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in Irene’s memory to the Humane Society of the Treasure Coast, or to any local animal shelter.
Service will be private.
