On June 15, 2018, Irma Sauvage Merritt was carried home to the Lord on angel’s wings. Daughter of John B. (Pappy) and Rose Sauvage, she was born in Stuart, FL, on 1/30/1924. During WWII she worked in the shipyard as a welder. Later, she became a nurse’s aide at Martin Memorial Hospital, while raising her family. Later in life, she moved to Jacksonville, FL, to be near her family. Irma was a loving and caring mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. She treasured her family and her church; she will be remembered for her kindness, smiles, sense of humor, and unwavering faith in the Lord.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Jim Merritt, brothers, J.B. and Carl Sauvage, and sister, Mary Sutton.
She is survived by her daughter, Melba Hall (Ron), her two sons Tyron Merritt (Pat), and Kerry Merritt, 7 grandchildren, and 13 great grandchildren.
A Memorial service will be held at Faith Baptist Church of Mandarin, Jacksonville FL, on Thursday, 6/21 at 4pm. A Viewing will be at Aycock Funeral Home, 505 S Federal Hwy in Stuart, FL on Saturday, 6/23 from 1-2 pm. An Interment, with a graveside service, will be held at Fernhill Memorial Gardens on Saturday, 6/23 at 2:15pm.
