Jeffrey Joseph Matthews

Jeff was born on March 23rd, 1979 in Waterbury, CT to parents Joseph and Lauren Matthews, he grew up in nearby Prospect, CT until age ten when his family relocated to Tequesta, FL. Jeff attended Jupiter Middle School as well as Jupiter High School where he graduated with the class of 1997.

Jeff had a huge heart, spending time with his family was extremely important to him, especially with his son Mason and his niece and nephew who he adored. Staying in touch with friends also meant a great deal to him. Always an animal lover, he rescued numerous animals which went on to be his beloved pets. He loved nature and found comfort and peace visiting family on his trips to Blowing Rock, NC in the Blue Ridge Mountains. An avid surfer, he also had a special place in his heart for Nicaragua where he had great memories of a surf trip he took there. Besides surfing, Jeffrey was multitalented, spending time writing and picking up anything artistic. When he wasn’t writing, you could find him playing both electric and acoustic guitars on which he was self-taught and enjoyed playing with his dad. A lover of music, his favorite artists included The Cure, The Pixies, Jane’s Addiction and Modest Mouse.

Jeff is survived by his parents Joseph and Lauren Matthews, his son Mason Andrew Staton-Matthews, sister Lea Finan (Jason Finan), nephew and niece Jaxon and Lila Finan, his best friend and Mason’s mom Tiana Staton as well as aunts, uncles, cousins and countless friends that he had made.

He is predeceased by his maternal grandparents Nicholas and Laura Colangelo, paternal grandparents Gerald and Lorraine Matthews.
