November 2, 1926April 20, 2021

Magdalena was born on November 2, 1926 to Maria Eugenia Giol Cabassa and Pedro Milan Rico in Ponce, Puerto Rico. She graduated in 1944 from Escuela Superior Central.

In 1947 she married Dimas C. Gonzalez in New York City where she worked for General Motors Corporation world headquarters writing and translating correspondence with their South American offices.

Between January, 1948 and November, 1952 she gave birth to four daughters. She was a loving and devoted mother, cooking great meals, sewing beautiful dresses and starching an abundance of petticoats. She volunteered in schools and served as a girl scout leader inspiring curiosity and love of adventure.

She moved to Miami, Florida in 1950 and returned to work in the 1960’s at the Freedom Tower helping to relocate refugees from Cuba. She later worked as an executive assistant for the Christian Community Service Agency for many years and was involved in community outreach and humanitarian efforts.

In 1972 she married Jack Cassidy, minister with the United Church of Christ and they moved to Rochester, New York where she began a successful career in real estate and enjoyed cross country skiing, hiking and canoeing her beautiful Irondequiot Bay. After moving to Stuart, Florida she continued working in real estate and became active with Florida Trails and the Tropical Trekkers Chapter, pursuing her love of the natural environment and working to build and maintain miles of wilderness trails including Halpatiokee Regional Park.

Magdalena is cherished by her family for her kindness, her support, her encouragement, for her resourcefulness and wisdom, her joy and for her love of life.

She is survived by her four daughters: Gladys Marie Clancy (Kevin), Linda Steele (Steve), Aida Fry (Stephen) and Patricia O’Donnell (Jere); 9 grandchildren: Jennifer Steele Lacy, Shana Steele Lewis, Thomas Jesse Steele, William Fry, Genevieve Fry, Amelia Fry, Christopher Stein, Andreas Stein, and Jack O’Donnell; 9 great grandchildren: Dylan Lewis, Josh Lewis, Evan Lacy, Jon Steven Lacy, Kiki Kjerrumgaard, Charlie Kjerrumgaard, Agnes Fry, Frances Fry and Walter Fry MacKinnon; and sisters Gladys Milan and Virginia Smith.
