Mary Jacqueline Sobel

Jackie was born in Warwick, R.I. on April 9, 1958 to parents Raymond and Mary Jacqueline Walsh. She was the fourth of six siblings and had five children: Emily, Eileen, Betsy, Thomas, and Margaret Gardner. She met David Sobel in 2010 and they were married June 28, 2015 in Worcester, Mass. and moved to Florida where they have lived for the past 10 years.

Jackie received a BS degree in mathematics, magna cum laude, from Fitchburg State College. She was a marathon runner, an avid reader, a gifted seamstress, a creative artist, a talented gardener, and an amazing and beloved educator. All who were fortunate to know her benefited from her kindness, generosity, compassion and love. Jackie loved to take walks on the beach with her loving husband. She picked up shells and she knew the names of every shell she collected. She especially loved taking walks with David after dinner.

She was so proud of her five children and would talk about them all the time. They have many happy memories of spending time with their mom in Walt Disney World, hosting family Thanksgivings and going to the beach in Rhode Island.

Jackie recently retired as Director of the Middle School Math Department at Meyer Prep in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida.

She is survived by her husband David Sobel, her children Emily Lindblad (and spouse Andy Lindblad), Eileen Gardner (and spouse Jeff Moan), Betsy Gardner (and spouse Mike Wellman), Thomas Gardner (and partner Hannah Fisher) and Margaret Gardner. She was Nana to her four grandchildren, triplets Jack, Olive and Ella Linblad and Cole Moan. She leaves behind her five siblings, Martha Fournier, Raymond Walsh, Denny Walsh, Michaela Tervo and Danny Walsh and their spouses. Special mention goes to her aunt Jean Carpenter of Warwick, R.I. and her very special nieces, nephews, grandnieces, and grandnephews.

A memorial service was held at Meyer Academy on March 26, 2024 and a celebration of her life will be held in Massachusetts.
