Maureen Gallagher

May 27, 1939February 10, 2021

Maureen Gallagher,(née O’Dwyer) of Hobe Sound, passed away peacefully on February 10, 2021 with her loving husband of 58 years, Jim, at her side.

Maureen grew up in Ballyclerihan, Co. Tipperary, Ireland into a farming family. She loved the racehorses they bred and stabled, and remained interested in racing her entire life. She was the second eldest of 11 siblings. She met Jim on a blind date when he was visiting from the US and the rest is history. A year later, in 1962, they married in Ireland and then settled in New York where they raised their three daughters.

In 1974, Maureen began her career in pharmaceutical packaging working for the Howell Packaging Company in Elmira, NY. She later moved to the O’Heany Packaging Company based out of Rochester, NY. She became their top sales representative for 13 years in a row, was promoted successively, and retired as the District Sales Manager responsible for the East Coast.

In her younger years, Maureen was very active in her community in many ways. She is a past president of the Ancient Order of Hibernians-Rockland County; volunteered for many years with the March of Dimes and the Red Cross, and her local parishes; and had a lifelong interest in gardening that she shared with others. She made sure to always keep her ties to her family in Ireland strong, returning every summer for visits. After retiring, Maureen and Jim moved to Hobe Sound where she became an avid golfer, enjoyed book club with her girlfriends, and socialized with their many friends.

Maureen’s family was the center of her full life. She leaves behind her husband, Jim, her daughters Carmel Delaney (Chris) and Ann Stoudmire (Bob); grandchildren Sean Delaney (Tara), Katie Delaney, Timmy McAleese, Kevin Delaney, Shannon McAleese and Michael Delaney; and great-grandchildren Charlotte and Christopher Delaney. She will be deeply missed by her siblings Alice Collins, Tony O’Dwyer (Phylis), Renée O’Dwyer, Anne O’Dwyer, John O’Dwyer, Paul O’Dwyer (Barbara), and Nuncie O’Dwyer. She is predeceased by her beloved daughter, Joan O’Flynn, and her brothers Mike and Joe O’Dwyer, and sister Dolores O’Dwyer.

A funeral mass will held at St. Christopher’s Catholic Church, 12001 SE Federal Highway, Hobe Sound FL 33455 on Saturday, February 20 at 1:30 pm. A memorial service will be scheduled at a later date in Ballyclerihan, Co. Tipperary, Ireland.

I was so sorry to hear of Mrs. Gallagher’s passing. I have such fond memories of my time with the whole family in Bardonia and down at the shore. They always made me feel at home. There were many great laughs, wisdom passed down and a couple of oops of mine and Joan’s. I know how happy she is to be back with Joan. Much love to Mr. Gallagher, Carmel and Ann. Know that I think of Joan often, I remember her with smiles and laughter. I will say some prayers for you all. xoxo

I'm so happy that I had the honor of meeting your lovely mom, loved her Irish Brogue. She was truly a sweet Irish lass and her face and smile were heartwarming and welcoming. I am so sorry for your loss of this lovely lady and that space in your hearts although can never be filled her memories should keep you smiling and content. She lived a full life, touched the hearts of many and is now reunited with family and friends in a better place. The most we can hope for is that those we love depart peacefully and it's a blessing to those left behind. My prayers are with all of you during this difficult time and may her soul rest in peace.

Jimmy, Carmel and Anne, sorry for your loss. I have very fond memories of Auntie Maureen all the Gallagher BOS's and visits to our house in Raheny. Auntie Maureen was always happy to sit and chat and catch up on family news and I feel privileged that as one of the older grandchildren I got to spend so much time with all my aunts and uncles. Thinking of you all. Take care, love, Brenda

We were so sorry to hear of the death of Maureen R.I.P. She was a lovely person, always bubbly and smiling and she and Jimmy made us so welcome in their home in Bardonia. We had a wonderful time with them culminating in going to see Riverdance in Radio City, which had only opened a couple of days earlier, Their frequent visits back to Ireland were always great and a good excuse for a BOS. They also made Auntie Kay, Leo's mam, so welcome when she visited with Auntie Laurie in the 1970's. Our deepest sympathies go to Jimmy and the family and we will be sharing the funeral mass with you all this evening.

There are so many memories. I remember when any of us would have friends over from school, they would all say your mom has a beautiful brogue! We would all look at each other and say what brogue? We were so used to hearing mom and dad, but when any one called or came from Ireland the tomatoes and potatoes became more pronounced. I love you mom! You will always be in my heart! I celebrate your life!
