Rebecca J. (Becky) Brown, loving wife and mother, passed away suddenly on April 14, 2020, at the age of 82. Becky was born in Evanston, Illinois and spent her formative years in Turkey and Oklahoma. She graduated from Lawton (OK) High School in 1955 and attended Oklahoma University as a Tri-Delta sorority sister. From Oklahoma she moved to Fort Eustis, Virginia where she met and married Captain Patty Eugene Brown, U.S. Army, on February 19, 1965 in the Fort Eustis chapel. Together they raised a daughter, Heather M. Brown, who currently resides in Virginia Beach, VA.
Becky was an Army brat herself and relished Army life with her husband who served for 27 years. During this time, they traveled extensively and she was always by his side during tours that included South Korea and Germany. She actively participated in numerous Officer Wives Club activities that were an integral part of Pat’s Army postings. Upon Pat’s retirement from the military, new adventures awaited with his second career with United Technologies Corporation, Pratt and Whitney, that took them back to South Korea and to a unique posting in Saudi Arabia.
After 40 plus years filled with challenges, travel, fun and adventure, Becky and Pat settled in Hobe Sound, Florida where she continued to make new friends and staying active playing bridge and bunko. Becky had an infectious smile, loved to whistle and hum to music, enjoyed entertaining, loved learning, was an avid reader, and was always up for lunch with the ladies and going to plays.
Becky was preceded in death by her stepfather, Edwin L. Harloff (Retired Army) and her mother, Goldean Marie Harloff. She is survived by her husband, Pat, her daughter Heather and brother, Robert Harloff of San Antonio, Texas. Interment will be in Arlington National Cemetery at a date to be determined. A celebration of Becky’s life will occur at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions/donations may be made to the American Cancer Society.
