Richard “Rick” Lee Huff, 55, of Hobe Sound, Florida, suffered a sudden heart attack and died on October 30, 2025. Rick fully trusted Christ and did his best to honor Him with his life. We know he is Home in the everlasting arms of God.
Rick is survived by his beloved wife of 30 years, Mary Ellen; their children, Michael (Christina), Kaitlyn, Ethan, and Devin; three grandchildren: Ava, Marshall, and Everly. He is also survived by his mother, Glendah Huff Comfort, of Ottawa, Kansas; Father- and mother-in-law, Jim and Joyce Olsen of Hobe Sound; siblings, Robin (Blake) Capps of Hobe Sound; Randy (Jane) Huff, of North Pole, Alaska; Rhoda (Bryan) Line of Bedford, Indiana; Robert “Robb” (Robyn) Huff of Hobe Sound, and Ronald “Ron” Huff of Lawrence, Kansas, and in-law siblings Brenda (Steve) Dickerson, Steve Owens, and Lenita (Grant) Shillington. Many cherished nieces and nephews will miss him greatly: Jonathan, Lauren, Sarah (Chris), Lawrence (Caitlyn), Elliot, Austin (Christy), Alex (Brianna), Brooklyn (Brock), Brittany (Ryland), Payton, Addyson, Harrison, Jessica, Alex, Bryce, Connor, Brittany (Luke), Travis, Chris (Taylor), and Brianna. Many great-nieces and -nephews will also miss his love. Both of Rick's parents had seven siblings so there are many cherished aunts, uncles and cousins on both sides in addition to the extended family into which he married.
Rick was preceded in death by his eldest sister, Ronda Marie (1962); by his grandparents, Stacey & Irma Huff and Glenn & Freida Hoerner; his beloved father, Larry Lee Huff (1993); his sister-in-law Charlene Owens (2023); and by his mother's second husband, Marlan Comfort (2023).
Rick was born on July 23, 1970 in Clay Center, Kansas. He came home to three loving siblings where they lived in Miltonvale, Kansas. Later that year Rick's father joined the Kansas Highway Patrol and was stationed in Ulysses, a farming and industrial community in far Southwestern Kansas. Rick lived here until he was nearly nine at which time his father was transferred to Clay Center, and so the family returned “home” to the Flint Hills region of Kansas.
Here Rick continued his schooling with all his siblings at the Bible Methodist Academy in Miltonvale until his senior year of High School when he transferred and graduated from Overland Christian School in Overland Park, Kansas. These Clay Center and Miltonvale years were filled with love and friends and sports and family; the beauty and ruggedness of Kansas life; a few Kansas State games in Manhattan with ample dislike for the cross-state Jayhawks; countless commutes to and from church and school; visits to Manhattan to see Grandparents and take music lessons; listening to the radio with Paul Harvey or K-State or the Royals while we worked outside on beautiful Saturdays in the Fall. And in all that mix were many visits with church and family to Hobe Sound, Florida which shaped Rick's life and eventually became his life home.
After High School Rick attended Kansas Christian College where the life and love of the late college President, John I. Paige, greatly impacted him. In Kansas City he thrived, playing basketball for the college and working as a bus driver and janitor. And it was in these years, while attending a Gospel Convention in Ohio with the school, that he was compelled by the call of Christ and surrendered his life to Him. This encounter made all the difference and Rick never looked back.
The next year Rick transferred to Hobe Sound Bible College where he completed the A.A. in 1991. It was at Hobe Sound where he met the love of his life, Mary Ellen Olsen, a classmate and friend. In 1995 they were married and made there first home in White Plains, New York. Rick had continued his education at Palm Beach Atlantic University where he excelled and completed a B.S. in Finance in 1995. His final formal education was at Pace University Lubin School of Business where he completed a Masters of Science in Taxation in 2000.
Rick's career followed this preparation in the world of finance. He served for five years at the David Berdon LLP, a CPA firm in New York City, finishing as a Supervising Senior. Then after moving to Hobe Sound he was CFO of Treasure Coast Irrigation for seven years after which he became CFO and Part Owner of TCI/Rood Landscape until 2010.
In 2010 he joined STS Aviation Group of Jensen Beach as the Corporate Controller. In 2014 he became the VP of Finance and then from 2019 until present he served as the Chief Financial Officer.
His career has been marked by excellence, diligence, and honor and it was remarkable to see how much he was able to serve non-profits such as Hobe Sound Bible College & Academy in addition to his work load. A Certified Public Accountant, Rick also offered his expertise to individuals and small businesses on the side — always with the same care, precision, and professionalism that defined everything he did. He was admired by colleagues for his sharp mind, steady leadership, and genuine kindness. Rick had an incredible gift for balancing the demands of high-level business with humility and compassion, earning the trust and respect of everyone around him
Rick was a faithful member of Hobe Sound Bible Church with his family for 25 years. He loved singing the the annual Singing Christmas Tree program and was known for his beautiful singing voice and excellent skill on the cello. He also would sing at family reunions and other events with his siblings, and it was always beautiful and touching. In addition to many other skills and talents, Rick was known for basketball court prowess, surprising many an unwary opponent in his younger years. More than once he showed up in a 3-on-3 tournament with friends and had a field day, dropping 3's, perimeter shots, and lefty lay-ups that won the day and the gold.
Rick lived a life marked by faith, love, character, integrity, and devotion to his family. He was the steadfast rock of his family — a faithful, devoted, and loving husband, a proud father, and a doting Grandpa to his 3 grandchildren. Rick’s greatest joy in life was his family. He shared a deep and abiding love with his wife, who was not only his life partner but his best friend for 30 years. Together, they built a home filled with warmth, laughter, and unconditional love. Rick was endlessly proud of his children and the people they became, always cheering them on through every milestone and every challenge. Nothing brought him more happiness than time spent with his four children, daughter-in-law, and three grandchildren. Grandpa Huff was quick with a smile or a hug. Whether he was down on the floor playing, racing them outside, or just sitting and reading them stories, he poured his heart into every moment with them. His Huff and Olsen families and other relatives were deeply important to him and spending time with them, attending family reunions, and being there for milestones was a priority to him.
Rick was a man of quiet strength and steady faith. He was known for his steadfast walk with Christ, his support of his church, his loyalty to his friendships, generosity, integrity, and willingness to work behind the scenes. Rick was a man of exceptional intelligence, curiosity, and drive. He excelled academically and carried that same commitment to excellence into his career. His sharp mind and problem-solving ability earned him deep respect among his colleagues and friends at STS Aviation and other businesses before that. Whether leading a project, mentoring others, or finding creative solutions to tough challenges, Rick approached his work with integrity, precision, honesty, and passion. He was admired not only for what he knew, but for how generously he shared his knowledge and helped others succeed in his gracious and humble way.
We will all feel his loss greatly but we draw from his life and are strengthened in Christ to live better within the legacy he leaves.

Rick’s passing leaves a deep void, but his life leaves an even greater legacy — of faith, devotion, and love that will live on in the hearts of all who knew him. He will be remembered as a man who loved his Lord, cherished his family and friends, and was highly respected and loved.
