I am so lucky to have been able to call you "uncle".  I hope when i pass on that my nieces feel the love and loss for me as I do for you.  Your stories always made me laugh and although I am crying now I want you to know how much you meant to me. Mr. Duke meant a lot to me during my high school years. He gave me my first job working at Duke's Harbor House and then at Duke's Deli.  He was a very well respected man.  He gave me so much during those years and his wife Jean too.
I lost track of them because I went to college, then moved away, but I always think of him and hold him in a special place in my heart.
My deepest regrets to you Mrs. Duke, Robby,Linda,Tommy,Lisa and John.  
May you all remember to smile when you think of him because I will.

There was only one Bob, my Watch Four shipmate and lifelong friend. He made us all laugh and feel good about ourselves whenever he felt we needed it and his life has been a lesson to all of us at MMA54 in the power of otimism in good and bad times. I will miss him every day.

So long old friend. May your journey have calm seas and smooth sailing. All your mates shall miss you very, very, much. Thanks for the memories.

It has been a pleasure getting to know Mr. Duke at his Dental office(Dr. DuCoin). Every time he would come for his appointment.. i would say, "Mr.Duke, How have you been?" he would always say,"Annette when are ya gonna start calling me Bob?" I never did... But it has been my pleasure getting to know him over the years, When you called to let our office know he had passed,I had a tough time pulling myself together, i was really looking forward to his appointment in April to talk with him. When i took that phone call i had a new patient that had just finished his first dental appointment with us, he said to me, "wow, i hope i touch your life when i pass the way that patient did" then my heart broke even more. May God give you the strength you need at this time, and the comfort of knowing he is now walking with our Father. God Bless!

Back in 2007 I decided to take up pool. I played almost every night. I thought I was Fabulous. When Bob called I was puffed up with success. i challenged him and told him in a very grand manner that I was going to take him to pool school! Bob set the date. We met at Toby's Billiards in hollywood. Bob invited me to break. I made a great break but did not sink a ball. Bob took his turn and ...... proceeded to teach me the error of my ways. In slow motion. Humbled I bought the next round. Best night of my life

So sorry to hear about the passing of Mr Duke. Even though I have not seen you for many years I do have some great memories of the entire Duke family noy to mention what a great boss and friend Mr Duke was. A wonderful man and uncle.  He always made us laugh and had so many interesting stories.  My daughter has memories of mailing him pictures she had painted and dried leaves that had fallen during the fall so he would have a little of New England while he was in Florida. A maritime brother has passed, one that will especially be missed. It was my pleasure to work with Bob Sr. for a couple of years at AMO Star Center. Mr. Duke was a fun man. I have great memories of all us kids playing sports, cheerleading and Mr. Duke being right in the middle of it all with a great smile on his face. He loved to see us kids having fun. My prayers and love go out to the whole family.

To Friends and Family of Bob Duke:

On behalf of the Air Program staff at DEP, Southeast District, please accept our condolences.  

Bob was an excellent supervisor, worker, co-worker, and friend to all at the District.  He was instrumental in turning around the ambient monitoring program from failing to passing audits.  In addition, he was the main driving force behind boosting morale in the Air Program and the District. In fact, some of his staff called him "Dad" because he took a personal interest in people to make the organization better and for staff to feel good about their work.  He did this by constantly complimenting his staff on their good work.

When Bob was promoted to supervisor, he stated that he would give the position 110%.  The fact is that he gave more like 200%. He was dedicated and he showed his staff and co-workers love.  Bob was always there to give advice to his staff on personal and professional issues.

Bob's contributions to the Air Program are duly noted and he will be sincerely missed.

My deepest condolences to the entire Duke Family. If Bob was your friend he remained your friend for life. For sure Bob made a grand entrance into Heaven to sit with the Lord Jesus Christ, 
 Bob knew that; "HAPPINESS RESIDES NOT IN POSSESSIONS AND NOT IN GOLD; THE FEELING OF HAPPINESS DWELLS IN THE SOUL!" Bob was one of the Happiest persons anyone could ever meet. Bob is truly Happy now, residing with the Lord Jesus Christ, although he will be missed dearly.

The world has lost a "giant of a man" in Bob Duke. A leader, a teacher, an inspiring individual and very fine engineer. He was a close friend and mentor who I can never replace. His advice, counsel and guidance to my family and I in both good times and bad were like no others; always positive, always "spot on" and always motivating. He shaped my life and career in so many unique and fulfilling ways that I couldn't ever begin to thank him enough. His confidence in me provided opportunity when others may not have and hopefully I never let him down. He was a team leader and "bridge builder" in all that he did. When Bob arrived on the scene, people naturally gathered about.

Bob; you may "finished with engines" for the moment, but we all know your next voyage takes you "up" not down. No periscope required this time! I love you like a father and thank you for letting me in your life way back when. Until we meet again; all the best to you, Jean and the entire Duke family. You made them strong and the legacy will endure.

I had the privilege of meet Robert at Keiser University where he was giving a lecture to our class.  It was Valentine's Day of this year just a few short weeks ago.  He came with his wife on this day and was delightful to watch them and hear him reminisce of memories during his time of service.  He had an amazing career and it was an honor to meet him.

Please accept my sincere apologies for the loss of your husband / father / grandfather.  Mr. Duke will be missed by all AMO members whom had the pleasure to know him.  He has touched the lives of many of us with his humor, intelligence, and inpiration.  I remember 7 years ago when I met him with his son John in Dania.  Bob gave me very good advice and encouraged me to continue to the top of my career.  I just completed my Maiden Voyage as Captain and think of our conversation often. Mr Duke was an Officer and a Gentleman....He was a great father to the Duke family and always let us in late hours at Duke's Harborhouse...or did he know?

I just received a call from a young Mate, Alex Butler working in the MARAD fleet out in Alameda CA

Apparently Mariners on the SS Gem State, Keystone State and Grand Canyon State found out about Bob 
And were very distressed 
Alex Told me there where a few people out there that worked with Bob.
So I think I will repeat what Alex said about your father to me

He was impressed with Bob's style of leadership, the way he motivated his crew and that anyone working with big Bob Duke felt like he really believed in his shipmates 
Alex also enjoyed Bob's humor and ability to make all about him laugh with him.
Alex Felt that Bob thought people were important and that he give back to all that came in contact with him

Alex felt lucky to have met Bob.

After speaking to Alex, I felt once again the extent of Bob Duke's reach into the lives of others 
and I also feel lucky to have walked with him for a while

I am so grateful for the short time I had to get to know Bob or Person as I came to know he was called.  We chatted many times in the office and at Happy Hour about his travels throughout Italy and he even brought in his Italy keep sake book for me to borrow and share with my husband.  Looking through the book and reading the excepts of Person and Jean's travels with their friends gave me even greater insight to what a wonderful and joyous person Bob was.  His presence, smiles, jokes and knowledge is missed at the office but will never be forgotted.  I send my sincerest condolences to all of his family and friends.

Please accept my sympathy during this hard time.  I was privledged to work with Bob both in the Port St. Lucie and West Palm Beach offices of DEP.  He always had a good story to tell or a joke to make you laugh.  I loved hearing about his old submariner stories.  He will be greatly missed here and by many.

Bubby was a special person. God broke the mold when he gave us Bubby. All loved him. He brought us much laughter and memories that will live with us until we meet with him at the hand of God.
