Robert Bruce Merritt, of Hobe Sound, Florida, passed away peacefully in his sleep Wednesday, June 1, 2022, at the age of 55. Rob was born in the Township of Pequannock, New Jersey to Bruce and Peggy Merritt. Rob and his family relocated to Hobe Sound in 1979. Rob graduated from South Fork High school in 1984 and from Life Chiropractic College in Atlanta, GA in 1991.
Rob loved to fish, ski, sail and go crabbing, but his passion was being a healer and giving to others. Most people were drawn to Rob and enjoyed being in his presence. Rob made you feel as if you mattered to the world, and he truly cared. He enjoyed making people happy and believed laughter was the best medicine. His sense of humor was contagious, and he was the king of telling “Dad jokes.” He loved music and classic movies and would share his favorites with others, but especially with his children. He insisted they watch and listen to the “classics” and found joy in singing Willy Wonka songs every Easter. However, Rob’s biggest joy and love was for his children and grandchildren.
Rob is survived by his four children (and their favorite quotes that remind them of their dad); his daughter, Baylee Briglio (Billy), “If there ever comes a day when we can’t be together, keep me in your heart and I’ll stay there forever” ~ Winnie the Pooh; his son, Wesley Merritt, “The pain that you’ve been feeling cannot compare to the joy that’s coming” ~ Romans 8:18; his son, Ryley Merritt, “For when I am weak, then I am strong” ~ 2 Corinthians 12:10; and his youngest son, Bruce Merritt, “I see you; I see you, walking through a dream, I see you my light in darkness, breathing hope of new life. Now I live through you and you through me enchanting in my heart that this dream never ends. I see you; I see you” ~ Avatar.
Rob is also survived by his five young grandchildren; James, Sadie, Christopher, Marley, and Ruby; along with his mother, Peggy Merritt, his twin brother Ray Merritt (Jennifer), his brothers Glenn Merritt and Steve Merritt (Helen) and his sister Barbara Patton (Keith); as well as many nieces, nephews, and lifelong friends. Rob was preceded in death by his father, Bruce Merritt, and his brother, Jeff Merritt.
The family is hosting a celebration of life for Rob on Saturday, July 2nd, from 4 PM-7 PM at Sandsprit Park, in Stuart, Florida. They look forward to sharing good memories and stories of Rob with his friends and family.
