Tom was born on March 17, 1947 to Thomas J and Twiletta (Davison) Gorney in Pittsburgh, PA and grew up in Gibsonia Pa. He lived in Ebensburg PA for the last 2 years of high school. He enlisted in the US Navy in September 1965 and served 15.5 months in Viet Nam and was honorably discharged with many medals. On March 21, 1970 he married Yvonne Miles Gorney. They celebrated their golden 50th wedding anniversary this year. They raised two sons, Thomas and Craig. In 1983 he and his family moved to Stuart, FL.
Tom was always a hard worker. He was a union carpenter and built some of the rides in Kennywood Park. He was a deputy in Allegheny County, PA. He started many successful businesses from maintenance to mall manager. He loved hunting and fishing and ran a charter boat. He owned and operated Gaffer’s Bait and Tackle in Port Salerno, FL. But the love of his life was always trucking. He trucked off and on all his life. His latest trucking experiences took him all over the country, as far as Alaska. He hauled heavy equipment, and even hauled honey bees across the country.
Tom was a hero. He was awarded the Carnegie Hero Medal for pulling a woman out of a burning car.
Tom was preceded in death by his father Thomas and mother Twiletta. He is survived by his wife Yvonne and his two sons Tommy and Craig, grandson Donovan, and brother David J (Joanne) Gorney and many nieces and nephews.
