I miss my frequent phone calls talking with Verna. She always had such a positive attitude in the midst of her challenges. I still have her phone number on a sticky note on the white board on my calendar on my refrigerator...no need to remove it. I will always cherish the lovely Rosemal heart she she painted and gifted to me. Even more, I will always cherish my friend Verna who had a heart of gold. Military wives often bond strongly and become like family to one another sharing the challenges and celebrating the joys in the midst of military life. She was like family to me.

I have so many warm memories of Aunt Verna.  One of my favorites is when we all lived in Utah, and Verna took 8 of us nieces, nieces-in-law, and great-nieces to The Nutcracker ballet in Salt Lake City.   It was such a beautiful thing to do all together at Christmas time.  Getting to know her as an adult was truly a pleasure. She was a kind, thoughtful, generous lady. Rest in peace Aunt Verna, and give Dad a big hug from me. 

My Dear Friend Verna, 
I have so many sweet memories of you that I don't know what to share! We met many years ago when our husbands served together in the Air Force while stationed at K.I. Sawyer AFB in the UP.  We became fast friends after discovering we shared many things in common, including a love for the farm life. I loved to hear you spin your tails about growing up on a farm in North Dakota. Your adventures were lively and I could just picture them in my mind as you shared with me. You were a wonderful story teller and I loved seeing that twinkle in your eye when you shared your stories. Family meant the world to you and you loved your time spent growing up with your brothers on the farm and all of the new members they added to your life.  

You were so supportive of me as a military wife and  I appreciated how you loved our daughter, Erica, just like she was your own. You  had such a warm and gentle heart. I also appreciated how you were willing to go on shopping adventures  with me to Milwaukee Wisconsin since we had little to choose from in the UP.  We often ended up driving in the late hours of the night. You kept me awake and helped watch for deer.  In the dark of evening every mailbox I passed seemed to look like a deer.  We later made a joke out of it warning each other to watch out for the deer mailboxes when traveling after dark.

Though we didn't live near one another, we connected by phone often. I was so inspired by how you did not allow the circumstances of your life to become who you were. You always tried to improve and you kept a positive attitude. You remained hopeful and tried to help others remain hopeful in less than ideal circumstances. 

Paul, I want to thank you for your loving devotion to Verna. The two of you were a wonderful example of loving committed marriage which we don't often see today. Verna was a beautiful woman...both inside and out. But you knew that, and that's why you married her. I will miss her.

I feel your loving smile filling the atmosphere with the warmth of your love.  When I close my eyes, I can visualize you walking, without any pain, down that long hall of white light towards smiles and open arms of those waiting to welcome you home.  Oh yeah, Uncle Paul and your twin brother were right up front!😊 😊 So many family members and friends,,,, Angels galore singing hallelujah!  Wow! 😇😇😇. There are so many memories of the four of us. Eating at each other's home, eating out, going to boat shows, boating. The list goes on and on. Vernon and I being farmgirls gave us much to talk about. I will miss our phone calls. Paul, I will be praying for you and family. Who knows what Bob and her are saying? God has taken them both home.

Dearest Verna.... There was always a peaceful feeling about you.   And a bit of mischief.

Verna was my sister-in-law but we always claim to be sisters from different mothers… I was so sorry to hear of her passing, but happy that it was not painful. Special condolences to Paul, You are in my thoughts every day!

GOD called home our dear friend Verna that is truly the messenger of “ Always be humble and kind “ . 

When I was young, Verna gave me a book called "Snuggle Piggy & the Magic Blanket." It was about a little pig that lived with his Aunt Daisy. She sews him a magic blanket when he's a baby & tucks him in with it every night. The animals on it come alive at night & they dance until they all fall asleep. It was my favorite book growing up & I always imagined Aunt Daisy as Verna. The name stuck from then on and she became Aunt Daisy 🌼 She would give me daisy themed gifts for my birthdays & Christmas. I'm so glad I kept them. I'll always have a little bit of her with me. 
You were one of the best Aunties a girl could ask for. I love you so much ❤

My beautiful sister-in-law, you were a sister to me.  I will so miss your smile, all the laughs, our travels together, and time spent in your pool talking about life.  Until we meet again.  Love you always!
