Carson Leroy Harris

Carson Leroy Harris, 83, of Stuarts Draft passed away Thursday, July 12, 2012 at his residence surrounded by his loving family. Born November 4, 1928 in Stuarts Draft, he was the son of the late Frank and Nellie (Chandler) Harris. Mr. Harris was a Veteran having served his country honorably with the U.S. Army. He was employed by the former E.I. Dupont where he worked as a powerhouse operator until his retirement in 1985. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brothers, Nelson, Raymond and Kenneth. Survivors include his loving daughters, Julia McDaniel of Stuarts Draft and Patricia Henderson and fiancé Mike McLear of Stuarts Draft; grandchildren, Becky Robertson of Staunton and Kevin Henderson and wife Karen of Stuarts Draft; great-grandchildren, Dustin Robertson, Derek Shuey, Sarah Griffin, Taylor White and Preston Henderson; great-great grandson, Dakota Griffin; His companion of 36 years, Louise Fitzgerald of Staunton; “Adopted Daughters”- Vivian and husband Mike Heflin, Sandi and husband Craig Lile and Pam Viera; “Adopted Grandchildren”- Chris, Nicole, Jacob and Carrie Howdyshell. A graveside service will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Monday, July 16, 2012 at White Hill Church of the Brethren Cemetery with Pastor Bruce Hankee officiating. Military rites will be provided by the Stuarts Draft VFW Post 9339. Active pallbearers will be Steve Harris, Wayne Pannell, Charles Henderson, Jr., Mike Heflin, Chris Howdyshell and Scott McLear, Jr. The family will receive friends from 5:00 P.M. until 7:00 P.M. on Sunday, July 15, 2012 at the Stuarts Draft Chapel of Reynolds Hamrick Funeral Homes, 1870 Stuarts Draft Highway and other times at the residence of his daughter Patricia Henderson.
