Gary was born in Rockbridge County to Blanche Plogger and Robert L. Beverly on December 6th, 1958. He went to school at Rockbridge High School. Gary retired from McKee Foods after 15 years as a delivery driver. In his spare time, Gary loved to tinker and always had some sort of project going. He needed to be busy and was very good at finding inventive solutions and “MacGyvering” problems, often with string. He loved to talk and socialize and was the type of man who never met a stranger. He loved to spend time at Smith Mountain Lake and being outdoors, enjoying fishing, eating fried chicken and anything sweet. When he was indoors, Gary loved his westerns and football, especially the Colts. He was also a proud member of the Monacan Indian Nation.
In addition to his parents, Gary was preceded in death by his life partner, Brenda Gale Vest; a sister, Juanita Beverly; and a brother, Jimmy Beverly.
Gary is survived by his sons, Patchen Beverly of Lyndhurst, and Paetyn Beverly and fiancé Melina Hoyos of Hampton. In addition, he is survived by his grandchildren, Justice Beverly and Unity “LuLu” Beverly; as well as sisters, Judy Beverly, Linda Beverly and Phyllis Beverly; brothers, Donald Beverly and Everett Beverly; and his dear friends, Jill and Buck Hostetter.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at a later date – contact the family directly for further information.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Gary’s name to the Monacan Indian Nation on their website.
