Hilda was born in Spotswood, Virginia, to Ola Mae Thompson and Willard D. Thompson on June 13th, 1945. She worked at Burger King, spent 13 years at Stanley Furniture, and another 3 years at McKee Foods before retiring so that she could take care of her mother. In her spare time, Hilda enjoyed working in her flower gardens and looking after her “fur babies” as well as caring for all the neighborhood animals that came to her door. Hilda had a sharp memory, remembering everyone’s birthdays, anniversaries and special moments, and sending cards to commemorate the event. She was a natural giver, always looking to help, and continually putting the needs of others before her own.
In addition to her parents, Hilda was preceded in death by her infant brother, Jerry Wayne Thompson, and brother David Thompson.
Hilda is survived by her daughters, Susan Gilland (Mark) of Stuarts Draft, Theresa Deakins (Steven) of Jay, Florida; her brothers, Garland Thompson, William Thompson (Barbara), and Nelson Thompson (Sharon). She is also survived by her good friends, Betty Mayo and Carol Doyle; her feline family, Keith, Snowball, Arthur, Mama Kitty, Pumpkin, Cali, Tabitha and Tabby; as well as her “grandchildren fur babies.”
Per Hilda’s wishes, there will be no public services at this time.
