

Jean was preceded in death by a son, Dr. Richard B. Dickinson Jr.; husbands Richard B. Dickinson Sr. of 54 years, Thurman Upchurch, Henry Reeves; and two sisters Helen Davis and Joyce Pearce.
She is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Faye and Benjamin Brown of Staunton, VA and Sharon and Robert Drews of Kensington, MD; six grandchildren and their spouses, Benjamin and Ann Brown of Eggleston, VA, Rebecca and Alec Kearns of Wake Forest, NC, Emily and Mac Williams of Greenville, VA, Adam and Robin Drews of Kensington, MD, Sheena and John-Mark Frévè of Chicago, IL, Ross Drews of Austin TX; and 12 great-grandchildren, Ruth and Henry Brown, Madeleine and Matthew Kearns, Jonah and Samuel Williams, Nicol, Calvin, Gunner and Sonrisa Drews, and Esmée and Errol Frévè.
Mrs. Reeves was born on August 26, 1926 in Chatham County, NC, daughter of the late Herman and Lottie Bell Catlett. She graduated from Green Hope High School in 1944.
In 1944 she married Richard B. Dickinson from Cary, NC, a WWII Army Veteran. They settled and raised their family in Newport News, VA.
Jean was a long time active member of Temple Baptist Church in Newport News.
Her friendly, caring nature was evident throughout her life and is warmly remembered by many who were welcomed into her home, which was often called “Grand Central Station” by neighborhood kids.
Jean was an excellent seamstress and cook. She enjoyed being involved in her son's baseball teams, serving as score keeper from Little League through his high school years. During the 1960’s she was a member of the Warwick Bowman Club and enjoyed participating alongside her husband and son in competition archery.
For a number of years she worked for Miller & Rhodes, first in the fabric department and then in the cosmetics department as a Lancome cosmetics consultant. She retired from the Newport News Shipbuilding Credit Union.
A graveside service will be held at Raleigh Memorial Park in Raleigh, NC at two o’clock Saturday afternoon, April 27th.
