Joyce Ann Balsley

Joyce was born in Waynesboro to Elizabeth P. Barr and Hugh C. Barr on November 10th, 1944. She attended Robert E. Lee High School in Staunton, graduating in 1963. She spent 19 years working for the Staunton Juvenile and Domestic Relations Court system as a deputy clerk. Joyce loved spending time with her family, especially on their mountain property. She was heavily involved in genealogy, enjoyed arts and crafts, as well as quilting and sewing. She was a longtime member of Calvary United Methodist Church, where she taught Sunday School for 55 years as well as being the Worship Chairman for many years. She was a member of the Stuarts Draft Woman’s Club, the Twilight Extension Homemakers Club, the Red Hats group and was a proud member of the Daughters of the American Revolution.

In addition to her parents, Joyce was preceded in death by her son-in-law, Michael Losh.

Joyce is survived by her beloved husband of 47 years, Leonard W. Balsley of Stuarts Draft; daughters, Teresa Losh and Tammie Toner and husband James of Stuarts Draft. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Laura Toner, Annamarie Drega and husband Joshua, Tiffany Law and husband Josh; great grandchildren, Ella Doyle, Tucker Doyle, Riley Law, Zachary Law, Joseph Michael Drega and baby Law, on the way. In addition, she is survived by her sister Barbara Sheets of Hampton; as well as numerous nieces and nephews; and many cousins found during her genealogy research.

A funeral service will be conducted on Tuesday, October 21st, 2025 at 10:00 AM at Calvary United Methodist Church with Pastors David Vaughan and Billy Coffey officiating.

Pallbearers will be Joshua Drega, Josh Law, Douglas Fitzgerald, Gregory Fitzgerald, Roger Harlow, and Steve Losh.

The family will receive friends on Monday, October 20th, 2025, from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the Stuarts Draft Chapel of Reynolds Hamrick Funeral Homes.
