Joyce Weir Bateman

Joyce was raised in Bentleyville with her younger brother, Joel Keith Weir, where she attended Elementary and High school. She went on to receive her teaching degree from Indiana State Teachers College in 1970. Following her graduation, Joyce moved to Virginia and began her teaching career with Prince William County. During her thirty-one year career she taught at Godwin Middle, Stonewall Jackson High, and C.D. Hylton High schools.

In August 1973 she married Michael Wayne Bateman. They raised two daughters, Michelle Renee (Robert L. Eyler II) and Teresa Catherine (Mark A. Remmenga).

Joyce was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. She enjoyed spending time playing games, working on puzzles, and organizing trips. Joyce loved to travel, planning numerous trips to the shore and many of our National Parks.

After retiring in 2001, she and her husband retired to Stuarts Draft. Joyce continued to be devoted to her family and was overjoyed with the blessing of three granddaughters - Megan Lindsey and Sarah Allison (Michelle) and Elisabeth Rebekah (Teresa).

While in Stuarts Draft, Joyce joined Calvary UMC and supported the church through her work with the Food Pantry and a social service group - The Church Ladies. Her infectious laugh brightened many activities and gatherings.

Joyce entered into the life triumphant on Friday, June 26. She is sorely missed by her family and friends.

A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on July 19, 2026 at Calvary United Methodist Church, 2179 Stuarts Draft Hwy. Stuarts Draft, VA 24477.
