Marjorie Julia Brooks

Marjorie Julia (Barkley) Brooks, 90, of Stuarts Draft, passed away Saturday, October 22, 2011 at Shenandoah Nursing Home. Born July 23, 1921 in Middlebrook, she was the daughter of the late Franklin J. and Nannie (Hanger) Barkley. Mrs. Brooks was a member of Bethel Presbyterian Church where she was social director for 25 years, member of the womens circle and worked in the nursery. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Guy Brooks, Sr.; daughter, Margaret B. Brooks; sister, Ann Hemp; brother, Graham J. Barkley. Survivors include her two children, Ellen Fitzgerald and husband David W. of Stuarts Draft and Guy Brooks, Jr. of Stuarts Draft; granddaughter, Laura Fitzgerald; sisters, Rosalie Thomas of Staunton and Ruth Hogshead of Front Royal, VA; brother, Franklin "Buddy" Barkley of Danville, VA; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. A graveside service will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Tuesday, October 25, 2011 at Bethel Presbyterian Church Cemetery, Staunton, with Rev. Joel Thornton and Rev. Clifford Caldwell officiating. The family will receive friends following the service at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Bethel Presbyterian Church, 563 Bethel Green Road, Staunton, VA 24401.
