Born February 12, 1948 in Indiana, she was a daughter of the late Clarence and Ada (Thorne) Ditton.
Shortly after Millie’s family moved to Waynesboro, she grew up and graduated from Waynesboro High School in 1965. Millie worked at the Waynesboro Phone Company as an operator where she was then introduced to her forever love. On July 5, 1969 she married Robert Lee Campbell and they shared 56 years of marriage.
Millie was a member of Stuarts Draft Mennonite Church and had recently attended Bridge Christian Church. Family meant everything to Millie and she loved taking care of them and being a wife, mother, and homemaker. Millie was a great cook, gardener and canner of the summer harvest. She loved her yearly vacations to Myrtle Beach where she spent hours looking for sharks’ teeth, laying in the sunshine and eating at seafood buffets. She will be remembered as a loving wife, devoted mother and grandmother, proud sister and aunt, and friend to many.
Survivors include her loving husband, Robert Lee Campbell of Stuarts Draft; son, Forrest Campbell and wife, Stacey, of Stuarts Draft; two granddaughters, Emily and Charly Campbell; brother, Michael Ditton of Spartanburg, SC; two sisters, Myra Wiseman of Greenville, SC and Melissa Meeks and husband, Larry, of Waynesboro; special cousin who became like a son to her, whom she babysat and cared for deeply, and will always hold a special place in her heart, Matt Thorne of Swoope; and a number of nieces and nephews.
A graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, July 8, 2025 at Stuarts Draft Mennonite Cemetery, 216 Howardsville Turnpike, Stuarts Draft with her brother, Pastor Michael Ditton officiating. All who plan to attend are asked to meet directly at the cemetery.
