

Born March 24, 1936 in Roanoke, Virginia and later growing up in Lexington, Virginia, she was the daughter of the late Mildred Coffey Davis.
After graduating from Lexington High School in 1955 she was employed by banks in Lexington, Waynesboro, and Stuarts Draft, Virginia and Monterey, California. Later in life she was employed with Hershey Chocolate in Stuarts Draft where she worked as a receptionist and after 14 years of service she retired in 1996. She was a member of Wayne Hills Baptist Church and their Sunday Class.
In addition to her mother, she was preceded in death by her first cousin, Stephanie Powers Scott of Harrisonburg, Virginia.
Survivors include her loving husband of 56 years, Marvin Chaplin of Stuarts Draft; daughters, Kelly Chaplin Bosserman of Stuarts Draft and Lori Chaplin Stevens and husband Charlie of Birmingham, Alabama; four grandchildren, Kristin Bosserman Arehart and husband Jeremy of Raphine, Kelsey Bosserman of St. Louis, Missouri, Emily Stevens and Davis Stevens of Birmingham, Alabama; as well as great-granddaughter, Destiny Brendia of St. Louis, Missouri.
A celebration of life service will be held at 3:00 P.M. on Sunday, November 4, 2012 at Wayne Hills Baptist Church, Waynesboro with Pastor Danny Campbell and Rev. Judson Baldwin officiating. The family wishes to invite all those who attend to stay for a meal and a time of fellowship immediately following the service.
The family would like to recognize as pallbearers, Charlie Stevens, Davis Stevens, Bart Conlon, Frank Nolen, Jeremy Arehart, John Arehart and Melvin Bradley. Honorary pallbearers will be her grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. on Saturday, November 3, 2012 at the Stuarts Draft Chapel of Reynolds Hamrick Funeral Homes, 1870 Stuarts Draft Highway.
The family would like to give a special heartfelt thank you to all of the staff and administration of Stuarts Draft Christian Home for their care throughout the last two years and all of Rita’s loving friends and neighbors.
