

He was born on June 16, 1941 to Eugene and Ada Fitzgerald in Staunton, Va.
After graduating from Spottswood High School, he worked for 42 years at DuPont before choosing to enjoy retirement. He married Carol Kisner Fitzgerald in 1960, and together they shared 66 wonderful years.
Dow enjoyed fishing, hunting, winemaking, and telling stories to his family and friends. He was a lifetime member of the NRA. He was known for his incredible knowledge of local history, warm personality and dedication to his loved ones.
He is survived by his wife, Carol; children, David Fitzgerald of Greenville, Anita Terry and husband, Mike of Spottswood, and Brian Fitzgerald of Raphine; four grandchildren, Billy Terry and wife, Heather of Staunton, Ben Terry of Spottswood, Lindsay Fitzgerald and Jacob Harman of Montebello, and Annabelle Terry of Greenville; sister, Mary Alice Jarvis; and brother, Keith Fitzgerald. He is also remembered by his special friends, Julie Monroe, Buddy and Angie Waymack, and Gary Humphreys.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, July 29, 2026 at the Stuarts Draft Chapel of Reynolds Hamrick Funeral Homes, 1870 Stuarts Draft Highway, Stuarts Draft.
A graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, July 30, 2026 at Mt. Carmel Presbyterian Church Cemetery, 6410 Lee Jackson Hwy, Steeles Tavern, Va with Pastor David Ball officiating. All who plan to attend are asked to meet directly at the cemetery.
