Obituary of Ronnie Jay Chandler
Ronnie Jay Chandler, 59, of Stuarts Draft passed away on Saturday, February 4, 2023 at his home surrounded by his family. Born November 5, 1963 in Staunton, he was the son of the late Lyle Abraham and Florine Virginia (Campbell) Chandler. Ronnie was a graduate of Riverheads High School, Class of 1982. He had been employed with Aramark for over 20 years and he absolutely loved his job. He had a special bond with his work family and customers. As an avid golfer, Ronnie enjoyed going golfing with his son, Chance, and even teaching his sister, Connie, how to play. One of his most memorable golfing trips was to the Masters Tournament and the Presidents Cup with Chance. He was a member of Stuarts Draft Baptist Church. Ronnie was a UVA sports fan and loved attending games with his family. He will be remembered as a loving father, brother, uncle, nephew, cousin and friend to many. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Betty Richardson; and nephew, Jeremy Chandler. Survivors include his son, Chance Chandler of Stuarts Draft; brothers, William Chandler and wife, Pam of Staunton, Gerry Chandler and wife, Shelley of Stuarts Draft, and Mark Chandler of Stuarts Draft; twin sister, Connie (Chandler) Lotts and husband, Barry of Stuarts Draft; brother-in-law, Freddie Richardson of Harrisonburg; mother of his son, Ginger Bodkin of Stuarts Draft; and a number of nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins. The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, February 8, 2023 at the Stuarts Draft Chapel of Reynolds Hamrick Funeral Homes, 1870 Stuarts Draft Highway, Stuarts Draft. Friends may also visit at any time at the home of his sister, Connie. A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, February 9, 2023 at Stuarts Draft Baptist Church, 2517 Stuarts Draft Highway, Stuarts Draft with Pastor Billy Coffey officiating. Burial will follow in Calvary United Methodist Church Cemetery, Stuarts Draft. Active pallbearers will be Chance Chandler, Barry Lotts, Colten Lotts, Hunter Rowzie, Clyde Harden, and Brian Shifflett. The family would like to give a special heartfelt thank you to his doctors and nurses at the Emily Couric Cancer Center at UVA and the nurses and doctors at Legacy Hospice. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Riverheads Volunteer Fire Department, P.O. Box 39, Mint Spring, VA 24463.
