Shelvy Jean Brooks

She was born October 5, 1946 in Stuarts Draft; she was the daughter of the late Stuart Samuel and Allie (Clark) Brooks.

Shelvy was a member of the Stuarts Draft Baptist Church. She worked as an administrative assistant for over 30 years at Western State Hospital. In her spare time, she enjoyed tending to her flower garden and going to the beach.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Wayne Samuel Brooks.

Survivors include her siblings, Frances (Brooks) Chandler of Stuarts Draft, Phyllis (Brooks) Peterson and husband, Gary of Washington State, Stella (Brooks) Sommer and husband, John of Louisville, KY and Robert Stuart Brooks and wife, Emma Jean of Stuarts Draft; numerous nieces and nephews; special friend, Tom Hyde.

Following cremation, the family will receive friends from 6:00 PM until 7:00 PM on Sunday, February 23, 2014 at the Stuarts Draft Chapel of Reynolds Hamrick Funeral Homes, 1870 Stuarts Draft Highway.

A private family service will be held at a later date.
