He was born on January 2, 1958, in Keokuk, Iowa, to the late Ruth Louise (Prince) Roeglin and Paul Walter Roeglin. He was proudly born and raised in Keokuk, where his values of hard work, family, and faith were deeply rooted.
At the young age of 10, Steve began his first job delivering newspapers before school—a small job that reflected the strong work ethic he would carry throughout his life. He attended Keokuk High School, where he lettered in basketball and bowling. During his teenage years, Steve gave his life to Jesus Christ at Calvary Baptist Church through the youth group ministry—a decision that would guide the rest of his life.
Soon after his spiritual commitment, Steve met the love of his life, Julie, and the two would become inseparable. He began his college studies at Sioux Falls College in North Dakota where he graduated with a Business Administration degree and later continued his education earning his bachelor’s degree in Industrial Technology/Engineering from Iowa State University while balancing married life and work.
Steve and Julie were blessed with three children and eventually made their home in Kirksville, Missouri. Steve worked for Hollister Incorporated for 28 years—18 in Kirksville, Missouri, and 10 in Stuarts Draft, Virginia. He began his career as a Quality Engineer and, over the years, became a certified Master Black Belt, teaching Lean Six Sigma processes. He traveled extensively, bringing his expertise to teams in Ireland, Denmark, India, Stuarts Draft, and Kirksville. Steve had a remarkable ability to lead with precision while always prioritizing his family.
A passionate sports fan, Steve never missed a chance to cheer on the St. Louis Cardinals, Boston Celtics, Kansas City Chiefs, or his alma mater ISU Cyclones. But above all, his favorite teams were the ones his kids played on. Steve not only showed up—he got involved, often coaching their sports teams. No matter how demanding his schedule, he made every effort to be present at their games and life moments, loving every opportunity to support and connect with his kids.
Upon retirement in 2019, Steve continued to live life with purpose and joy. But perhaps the role that brought him the greatest fulfillment was being “Papa” to his eight grandchildren, who adored him beyond words. His legacy lives on in their laughter, their stories, and the love he showed each of them.
Steve is survived by his devoted wife of 44 and a half years, Julia Ann (Fowler) Roeglin; his children: Adam Roeglin of Stuarts Draft, Virginia; Allison (Roeglin) Forystek, wife of John Forystek of Lynchburg, Virginia; and Alexander Roeglin, husband of Emily Roeglin of Richmond, Virginia. He is also survived by his brother, Douglas Roeglin, husband of Amy Roeglin of Texas; his sisters-in-law Jolene (Fowler) Nichols, wife of Michael Nichols, and Janell Fowler, both of Iowa. He also leaves behind his beloved eight grandchildren, Judah Forystek, Olivia Roeglin, Ariah Forystek, Sophia Roeglin, Ariella Forystek, Javan Forystek, Annalise Roeglin, Noah Roeglin; niece Natalie (Roeglin) Garcia and husband Matthew; nephew Peter Roeglin and wife Keren, nephew Christian Nichols, and niece Isabel Nichols; as well as his uncle, Harold Prince and wife Betsye of Michigan; and several cousins and a great-niece.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his father-in-law Ronald Fowler; mother-in-law Janet (Mitchell) Fowler; Aunt Irene (Roeglin) Collins and husband Uncle Junior “Beanie” Collins, Aunt Pauline (Roeglin) Summers and husband Ray Summers, Aunt Dorothy (Prince) Garrett and husband James Garrett; and one cousin.
