Born April 29, 1956 in Portsmouth, VA, she was a daughter of the late Ward and Ruth (Renfro) Shafer.
Family meant everything to Theresa, and she could almost always be found sitting on her front porch. She greatly enjoyed being outside, especially tending to her flower beds or vegetable garden during the summer months. Theresa loved taking trips to the beach and playing BINGO at various places. She will be remembered by those who knew her most for her sassiness, her stubbornness, her ability to always be real with the ones she loved most, and her zest for life.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two sisters, Shirley Lobb McCubbins and Linda Shafer Lane; and two brothers, Jack Lobb and Tommy Renfro.
Survivors include her loving husband of 45 years, Gary L. Clayton; two daughters, Michelle Antoinette Clayton of Stuarts Draft and Meagan Lee (Clayton) Greenwood and husband, Nicholas, of Staunton; five grandchildren, Nevaeh Michelle Clayton-Truslow, McKaelyn Greenwood, Aleeyah Barbour, Karsyn Greenwood, and Everlee Greenwood; brother, Charles Leon Shafer and wife, Sandy, of Clearwater, FL; and a number of nieces, nephews, and close friends.
Following cremation, a private memorial service will be held.
The family would like to give a special heartfelt thank you to the ICU Team at UVA and the staff at the Shenandoah House for their love, care and support of Theresa.
