OBITUARY

Alan John Williamson

May 7, 1946August 22, 2020

"Al" or "Poppy", as he was known by his family, passed away Saturday, August 22, 2020, from cancer. Born May 7, 1946 in Waltham, MA, he later moved to Sudbury, where he lived with his wife, Theresa, to whom he was happily married for over 50 years. Al is survived by his wife and their three children, Jennifer Campbell, Jay Williamson, and Jessica Smith, their spouses, Trevor, Micaela, and Jack, and seven cherished grandchildren: Justin and Ryanne Campbell, Matthew, Brendan and Daniel Williamson, and Jack and Benjamin Smith. He also leaves behind his sister-in-law Janet, her husband Dave Pray, nieces Tammy Wason and Monique Williamson, and nephews Sean Keane, John and Michael Williamson, along with many dear friends and family.

He founded A.J. Williamson Termite Control in 1971 (owned and operated by his son-in-law, Trevor Campbell, since 2012), and was active in his community; he volunteered his time coaching basketball and helping at the Sudbury Senior Center. Al was actively involved in scouts since his own youth and was especially proud to have mentored over 50 Eagle Scouts in addition to earning the Gold Hornaday Award, Silver Beaver Award, and being a Vigil Member of the Order of the Arrow. Al was involved with Troop 61 in Sudbury and held leadership positions at the Council-level, raising funds to improve local camps.

The Al Williamson Fund has been established in his memory to support the Camp Resolute Alumni Association, with funds to be used for capital improvements and maintenance and to pay for staff-related programs. Donations to the Fund may be sent to the Mayflower Council, BSA at 2 Mt. Royal Ave. #100, Marlborough, MA 01752. The family also suggests memorial donations to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital at www.stjude.org or mail to ALSAC/St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.

Dear Theresa - I am SO very, very sorry to learn of Al's passing. He was an amazing man and came to my rescue when my home had encountered a problem which nobody else could remedy. The beautiful obituary provided so much more information, of which I had no idea. God Bless You and your beautiful family. Again, I am so very, very sorry for your loss. May wonderful memories and his spirit live in your hearts forever. Sincerely, Donna Marino (N. Framingham customer)

Dear Theresa,
I wanted to share that you and Alan (Mr Williamson) have always shared your kindness as my neighbor and my home care advisors. I moved into my house in 93 and for years Alan did more than inspect my house .... he helped us take better care of the house. We always tried to listen by trimming the bushes, catch the mice, and buy drains for water. He shared his wisdom and his knowledge with my family as well as his pride of his family. Theresa when I lost my husband in 2002 you and Alan were so kind. I missed your call or appointment but you would just reach out. All this with out judgement just kindness. I will miss Mr. Williamson and know your large wonderful family will too. My prayers are with you and your family.
Warmly Beth

I'm sorry to the Williamson family for this loss. Alan was so sweet, I loved when he stopped in for gift cards for his wife. He always made me laugh and enlightened me about art. He admired a piece I have. I looked forward to seeing him a couple times a year. I will cherish all the conversations Theresa and I had about Alan. He was a great husband, father grandfather, and person. God bless him and all of you. Tammy

Jessica, I remember with fondness your dad when you were in my second grade class at Nixon School. I know you will miss him, but for sure you have joyful memories to help you through these days. You were blessed with loving parents. My love to you and your mom. Mrs. Fisher

Just over 25 years ago my brother Trevor married Al and Theresa’s daughter Jen and the Williamsons became part of our family, or more aptly put, we became part of theirs. We spent many Christmases, Mothers days, birthdays, anniversaries etc. with them and they remain very special to me.
I got shoes from many many memories involving Al/Poppy, but one stands out as being a perfect one to share here. One year Theresa was hitting a special mile stone in an upcoming birthday and Al new that I had some self taught digital media skills (although they certainly weren’t anything extraordinary). He asked me if I would put together a slideshow of photographs from throughout Theresa‘s life and play some of her favorite songs in the background. Of course I agreed! He would sneak the photographs out of the house and bring them over to mine and I would quickly scan them while he prayed I could be done fast enough and give back to him so that he could then return them to the house before Theresa noticed that they had gone anywhere! It is so sweet (not to mention funny) to think back about that little operation. The little movie was part of a larger celebration that the family (minus Theresa) were planning that year and it was all a surprise. In the end, the video, as well as the party, were a huge hit and it was only Al’s love for Theresa, and his understanding of what would mean the most to her, that led to that sneaky picture operation.
I’ll miss ya Pops - thank you for ALWAYS being so good to me. You are already missed but will live on through we who loved you.
