Avanell (Nell) was born September 28, 1924 in Montgomery, AL. She is survived by her
loving husband of almost 69 years, Eugene (Gene) of Marlboro. Beloved mother of
Eugene E. Vaccaro, Jr. and his wife, Gail of Framingham, Anthony J. Vaccaro and his
wife, Cynthia of Stow, David M. Vaccaro and his wife, Joan of Westboro, and Marianne
LaFreniere and her husband William L. LaFreniere of Northboro.
Cherished grandmother of Craig T. Vaccaro of Boston, Julianne A. Vaccaro of Marlboro,
Sean M. and Kyle D. Vaccaro of Westboro, and Alexander J. LaFreniere, Joseph M. LaFreniere,
and Anthony J. LaFreniere all of Northboro. She is also survived by her sister-in-laws,
Alberta (Vaccaro) Borgese of Bryn Mawr, PA and Helen Toutkoushian of Warrington, PA,
in addition to many nieces and nephews.
Nell and Gene enjoyed the last 17 years in Marlboro surrounded by their wonderful neighbors
of The Villages. She spent her formative years in Montgomery, AL and attended high school
at Glynn Academy of Brunswick, GA. After high school, she returned to Montgomery where
she worked at the cosmetics counter of the famed Montgomery Fair Department Store, then
later at the post exchange of nearby Maxwell Field Air Force Base. It was there that she met the nice
Italian boy and love of her life, Gene. After the war, they were married and spent several
years living with Gene's parents in South Philadelphia. Several years were spent in Dayton, OH
but, eventually, they would make their home and raise their family in Wayland, MA.
Nell was a loving mother with a good sense of humor. She loved nothing better than to be
surrounded by her family and grandchildren. She was an avid reader, a great cook, and
loved anything with "a little bling". She looked forward to Friday's, her "hair day" at
J.P. Salon where she would see her friend and hairdresser of over 25 years, Joan, and
get "beautified".
Funeral arrangements will be private. The family would like to thank the nurses of VNACare
Hospice, especially Nancy Hazeltine, and her loving care givers, Mercy and Linda. In lieu of
flowers, gifts in Avanell's memory may be sent to VNACare Hospice, 199 Rosewood Drive,
Suite 180, Danvers, MA 01923.
