Berys Margaret Jones

Born November 11, 1923 in Auckland, New Zealand, she was the daughter of Henry and Gladys (Cork) Horrocks. Berys was raised in New Zealand and graduated from Nga Tawa School. She was a war bride, previously married to the late Howard Kirshen with whom she moved to Boston in 1944. Berys worked as a nurse’s aide as a young woman and resided in Maryland and New Jersey before settling in Waban in 1957. In her younger years, Berys was a tennis enthusiast, and throughout most of her life, an active bridge card player. She was also an excellent cook and hostess, preparing many traditional English dishes, such as fruit cake, Christmas pudding, and Beef Wellington. She began her career in real estate in Newton in 1967 and was proud to be a well-known and respected broker until her retirement in 2003. Mrs. Jones moved to Weston upon her marriage to the late H. Walter Jones, Jr., in 1993. She was predeceased by Walter in 2009 after 16 years of marriage.

Devoted mother of Susan Sheehan and her husband Larry of Falmouth, Paul Kirshen and his wife Bettina of Concord, Elizabeth “Lisa” Ridley of Waltham, Diana Pape and her husband Mark of Chevy Chase, MD; proud grandmother of Christopher, Alison (deceased), Benjamin, Andrew, Jennifer, Leland, Alexander; loving stepmother of Hank Jones and his wife Margaret, Witmer Jones and his wife Eileen, David Jones and his wife Debra, Ben Jones and his wife Lindsay, Dan Jones and his wife Susan; loving sister of Samuel Horrocks and his wife Margaret of New Zealand. She is also survived by 12 step grandchildren, one niece and two nephews.

She was predeceased by her husband, Walter, in 2009; by her former husband, Howard, in 1995; and by her sister, Noel Orr.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, October 29, 11:30 AM at the Parish of the Good Shepherd, 1671 Beacon Street, Waban. Private interment at Linwood Cemetery in Weston will follow. The family will host a gathering with light refreshments at the church on Saturday October 29, from 10:30-11:30, prior to the service.
