Christopher John Manente, 17, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, May 16, 2019, peacefully in his sleep.

Christopher was born on July 2, 2001 in Mountain View, California, and moved to Sudbury with his family on his first birthday. Chris touched many lives through his involvement in various activities in Sudbury and at Lincoln-Sudbury Regional High School, including Symphonic Orchestra, Select Jazz Combo, Debate Team, Lacrosse and Boy Scouts. He was also a National Merit Scholarship finalist.

Chris was kind-hearted and intelligent, passionate about music, and gifted in mathematics and science. He was a skilled bass guitarist and took every opportunity he could to make music with others. His proudest moment was when he received the Louis Armstrong Jazz Award.

He had a deep appreciation of nature and was a proud Eagle Scout. Chris was always thinking of others and designed, built, and installed four ADA accessible benches along the boardwalk of the Red Maple Trail in the Great Meadows National Wildlife Refuge in order to ensure guests of all abilities could enjoy the outdoors, as he did. He planned to study biomedical engineering at Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh, PA, after his graduation this year.

Beloved son of Michael and Melinda (Keyser) Manente; cherished brother of Maddison and Matthew, both of Sudbury; treasured grandson of William (Jr.) and Joan Keyser of Victor, NY, Ralph and Kathleen Manente of Monroe, CT; precious nephew of Mark Keyser and his wife Janette of East Bloomfield, NY, Karen Clausi and her husband Jim of Trumbull, CT; loving cousin of Emily and Allison Clausi of CT, Jonathan Keyser of NY; respected friend to countless peers.

The funeral Mass will be held at 10AM on Saturday, May 25, at Our Lady of Fatima Church, 126 Concord Road, Sudbury. All guests are invited to meet directly at the church.

My heart goes out to Melinda and Mike and the entire Manente family (and friends of Chris).

I hope that the amazing young man Chris grew to be will provide comfort to you all. He had accomplishments well beyond his age and seemed to have left his mark despite being gone entirely too soon.

I will always remember Chris during the most special time in my life...when I was expecting my son. At my baby shower, my mother was enamored with the adorable blonde, happy, smiley baby Christopher that sat on her lap throughout the shower. Seeing the two of them together made me so happy in anticipation for my own child to be born.

I will keep you all in my prayers. Not a day has gone by that I don't think of you all, and wish you did not have to go through this.

All my love, Yasmine

Our hearts, love and prayers go out to all of you. Chris was such a kind, gentle, quiet soul. We loved watching him at all of the LS concerts and band nights these past four years, where he showed us his incredible talent and style. Chris is truly missed by so many. Chris and his bandmates developed an amazing and welcoming collaboration over the years as they played in each other’s rock and jazz groups. It was a pleasure to watch their experience and confidence transform them into gifted musicians. We celebrate the joy that Chris packed into our lives.

Chris is proof that to live a meaningful life is not measured by length of time. In his brief 17 years he achieved more than most older adults. But beyond his accomplishments, his lasting legacy will be who he was as a person. May we all embrace music, nature, knowledge and compassion for others with the same energy he did and never take for granted the beauty and majesty of mountains. Melinda, Mike, Maddison and Matthew may God’s loving and healing arms envelope all of you in the days ahead. You are constantly in our hearts and prayers, The Wessel Family

Melinda and Mike — we are so deeply saddened by your loss. Reading through these posts and learning about Chris’ accomplishments and passions has only reinforced that Chris put others before himself, a rare quality indeed. I can tell he touched lives, made friends and despite living a short life, has left a legacy for all of those fortunate enough to have met him.

I know your family will carry on the generous spirit with which he lived. Again, holding you in our hearts during this very sad time.
