Elsie Palmer

Elsie Palmer, daughter of Edgar F. and Edna T. Miller, passed away at age 84 on Monday, September 17, 2012, in Sudbury, Massachusetts, surrounded by her family. Elsie was born in Hartford, CT. She lived most of her life in West Hartford, CT and Boothbay Harbor, Maine. Most recently, she had been living with her daughter, Anne in Sudbury, Mass. She graduated from Wm. Hall High School in West Hartford and attended Connecticut College in New London, CT.

Elsie was married for 54 years to her husband Russell who predeceased her in 2007. She leaves her sister, Joan M. Sandstrom of Boothbay, Maine. She also leaves her five children Gilbert F. Palmer and his wife Pat, Betsy P. Flynn, Curtis R. Palmer and his wife Ellen, Jane P. Pollard and her husband Sam and Anne P. Bisson and her husband Donald. She also leaves her cherished eleven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren, Christopher J. Palmer and his wife Vanessa, Stuart F. Palmer and his fiancée Lauren Needham, Andrew R. Palmer, Elizabeth H. Flynn, Austin P. Flynn, Matthew C. Palmer, Ryan S. Palmer, Emma T. Pollard and fiancé Alex Thomas, Sally A. Pollard, Will C. Pollard, Jane E. Bisson, Rylan L. Palmer and Taylin M. Palmer (born September 13, 2012). Elsie also leaves behind several loving nieces and nephews.

Elsie worked at Aetna Life and Casualty in Hartford, CT. She was a member of the Junior League of Hartford, The Town and County Club of Hartford and the Hartford Golf Club where she was a perennial champion in ladies bowling. She was also a vestry member of St. James’s Church in West Hartford and of St. Columba’s Church in Boothbay Harbor, Maine.

Her greatest love was her family whom she nurtured and cared for with great passion. She also loved travel (especially Bermuda), fashion, watching Jeopardy, being in Maine, the Boston Red Sox, sports in general and her family’s many Golden Retrievers.

Elsie lived a rich and full life and her passing only highlights the tremendous legacy she’s given to those around her: the importance of family and how to live a life of dignity and grace.

Her family would like to thank the kind and caring team at Hospice of North Shore and Greater Boston, particularly Regina, Catherine, Mary, Marcia, Meaghan, Leslie and Angela for making Elsie’s final days comfortable and peaceful.

The family will hold a private burial ceremony at Fairview Cemetery in West Hartford. In lieu of flowers, contributions to Hospice of North Shore and Greater Boston would be greatly appreciated.
