

Fitzgerald, Helen Ann "Nancy" a longtime resident of Framingham, passed away February 9, 2024, at 89 years of age with her loving family at her side.
She was born in Somerville, on December 28, 1934 to Thomas and Helen Tracy (Webber). Nancy is preceded in death by her beloved husband Robert A. Fitzgerald. Nancy is the loving mother of Robert Fitzgerald Jr. and his wife, Christine, of Danvers, Shawn Fitzgerald of Framingham, grandmother of Elizabeth Swensen and her husband, Brian, Laura Fitzgerald, Andrew Fitzgerald, Keri Barry and her husband Joseph, great grandmother “Gigi” of Sophia Swensen, Jack Swensen, Emily Barry and Elaina Barry.
Nancy attended Mount Trinity Academy in Watertown and received her Bachelor of Science degree from Framingham State College in 1956 and her Master of Education in 1976. She began her teaching career at Watertown High School and later became their Dean of Girls until 1969. Following moving to Framingham, Nancy was hired as a Family & Consumer Science Teacher at Framingham High School where she taught for 23 years until she became the Department Chair. Nancy was continually involved in extracurricular activities. She was frequently the class advisor as well as the advisor to numerous Senior Variety shows that raised money for senior activities. Nancy was well respected by administration, faculty and students.
Nancy was passionate about Early Childhood Education and she was instrumental in starting Northside Nursery at then Framingham North High School. Her high school Early Childhood Education students were assistants in the nursery school and some of them are currently elementary teachers in Framingham. Northside Nursery was the beginning of B.L.O.C.K.S. (Building Learning Opportunities for Children’s Kindergarten Success) Preschool. Nancy was an active member of the Framingham Garden Club and the Framingham History Center.
Nancy was the loving sister of the late Thomas Tracy of Watertown and Paul Tracy of Falmouth.
Nancy leaves behind her sister Joan Govoni of Plymouth and brother Jack Tracy of Abington, as well as her lifelong friend Marilyn Priebe and many other family and friends.
Visitation will be held in the Duckett – J.S. Waterman & Sons Home of Memorial Tribute, 656 Boston Post Road (Rt. 20) SUDBURY, on Thursday, February 15, 2024 from 9 – 10AM. A Funeral Mass will follow at St. George Catholic Church, 74 School Street Framingham, at 10:30.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Nancy’s memory to establish a scholarship for a Framingham High School Senior Student who is furthering their education or to a charity of your choice.
