It is with profound sorrow that the family of Jean Roscow Nelson, beloved wife of Richard Nelson, announces her passing on May 10, 2025. She was a resident of Winchester, MA for over 70 years, raising her family there first on Town Way, then on Mayflower Road.
Jean was born on August 9, 1924, in New Bedford, MA, the daughter of Fredrick Roscow (1896-1985) and Alma “Neddie” Roscow (1897-1952). She graduated from New Bedford High School and St. Lukes School Hospital School of Nursing there before joining American Airlines as a flight stewardess in 1946. Based in Boston, it was there that she met and fell in love with her husband of fifty-two years, Richard Nelson (1917-1999), an airline Captain for TWA.
Jean was a wonderful mother to her four children and always enjoyed being an active volunteer with them for many community activities when they were young. She and Dick made sure the children took advantage of his vocation by taking family trips all over the world. As her family expanded, she welcomed her grandchildren into her home and traveled to attend and celebrate the special events in their lives. In her later years Jean continued her community service at the Enka Society, Meals on Wheels and the Parish of the Epiphany.
Jean is survived by her four children, Candice of Reston, VA, Richard (Marcia) of Williamsburg, VA, Fred (Lisa) of Flower Mound, TX, and Mark (Debby) of Sudbury, MA, her nine grandchildren, David, Peter, Jon, Ryan, Michael, Amanda, Samantha, Kaila and Carly and her four great grandchildren, Elina, Roman, Sadie and Maisie.
Jean’s family is deeply grateful for the loving care she received at Orchard Hill in Sudbury, MA for the last five years.
Rest in peace, Jean. Your wonderful life was a testament to the power of your love and faith. Thank you for the lessons you taught us and the example you set. You will be deeply missed by your family and by all who have had the privilege of knowing you.
Remembrance
A private memorial service will be at Parish of Epiphany held to honor the life and legacy of Jean.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Parish of the Epiphany in her honor.
