John A. (“Jack”) Winchenbaugh, of Sudbury, died at home on May 17, 2021. He was 83. Jack was born in Arlington on April 17, 1938 and attended Arlington High School. He was a graduate of Boston College, Class of 1960, and proudly wore maroon and gold throughout his life. Jack met Martha Donnelly in 1958, they married in 1962 and spent 44 years together before Martha died in 2006.
Jack honorably served our country in the Army Reserves and was proud of the 32 years he spent at IBM—he was so loyal to IBM that he somehow avoided using a single Apple product throughout his entire life.
Jack was a devout Catholic, a vocal conservative, fiercely independent, and a true gentleman. Crisp, white button-down shirts, pinstriped suits, bright ties, and wing-tip shoes were his trademark at IBM. A blue blazer, khakis and loafers were his casual clothes of choice. He always said grace at family dinners, and ladies were always first. He and his wife believed in hard work and the value of education and they instilled those values in their family. He could always be counted on to give a toast at a party, be the first one on the dance floor, and the Christmas Eve parties he and his wife hosted were legendary. He loved golf, all Boston sports, and most of all loved to talk to everyone about his 3 children and 7 grandchildren.
He believed in life after death and we know he is with Martha and many dear friends and family smiling down on, and watching over, all of us.
He was predeceased by his wife Martha and leaves behind his three children: Jacquelyn Fuller and her husband Keith of Marlboro, MA, Christopher Winchenbaugh and his wife Angela of Weston, MA, and Michael Winchenbaugh of Framingham, MA. He is predeceased by his sister Anne McCorkle of West Yarmouth, MA and leaves behind three sisters: Jane McIntosh of Barnstable, MA; Mary Kelly and her husband Bill of Osterville, MA; and Leslie Swaylik and her husband Dick of Jupiter, FL. He is also survived by his 7 grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
