Joyce Mildred (Fales) MacInnis, 86, formerly of Sudbury, Massachusetts, passed away on Thursday, October 8, 2026, with her children by her side. She was born on January 23, 1940, in Somerville, Massachusetts, the daughter of George and Mildred Fales.
Joyce married Ronald "Ron" William MacInnis, Sr., in 1960 in Medford, Massachusetts. They were married for 54 years, until Ron's death in 2014. In 1963, they moved to Sudbury where they built a home and raised their four children. They lived there together for more than 50 years. Joyce was a devoted wife and mother, and her home was always open to family and friends.
Joyce and Ron loved Sudbury and its history. She took part with Ron in the town's historical groups and Revolutionary War commemorations, including the Sudbury Companies of Minute and Militia and the Sudbury Fyfe and Drum Company. For many years they volunteered as greeters at Longfellow's Wayside Inn, where they welcomed visitors with warmth and good cheer.
Joyce was also a talented amateur painter who worked in watercolors and oils. Her paintings were a source of immense joy to her, and they are treasured by her family and friends. Her creativity and love of learning was endless whether sewing, basket weaving, photography, genealogical research, or cooking and baking for events enjoyed by family and friends. A lifelong animal lover, Joyce took great delight in the family's pets and in the quiet beauty of birds and wildlife in their natural surroundings.
Joyce is survived by her children: daughter Jacqueline Jurmu of Harwich Port Massachusetts; daughter Brooke Correia and son-in-law Christian Correia of Newton; and son Ron MacInnis, Jr. of Washington, D.C. Her grandchildren Andrew MacInnis Correia, a student at Tufts University, and Alexandra Grace Correia, a student at Boston College; and many in-laws, nieces, and nephews who loved her dearly. She was predeceased by her beloved husband, Ronald W. MacInnis, Sr., and by her son, Bradford G. MacInnis. She also leaves her brother, George Fales, Jr., and her sister Linda Foster. Her brother, Thomas P. Fales, Sr., died in 2022.
A graveside service will be held at Mount Pleasant Cemetery in Sudbury Center on Friday, October 23, 2026, at 11:30 a.m. After the service, family and friends are invited to gather in the Ford Room at Longfellow's Wayside Inn in Sudbury from 12:00 to 3:00 p.m.
