Judith Ann Young of Wayland, MA, passed away on June 10, 2024 at the Carriage House at Lee Farm. She was born in Rochester, NY on July 8, 1940.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Robert W. Young and Ottillie Young (Huber), beloved aunt and uncle Thomas Richardson and Ethyln “Brownie” Richardson, and nephew Jeffrey David Young.
Judy is survived by her brother Robert Jeffrey Young, his daughters Valerie Engelmann, Traci Bradley, and cousins Lisa Fast, Scott Huber, Hannah Huber Bankert and Hunter Huber.
During her career as a registered nurse, Judy worked at the Boston Children’s Hospital with pediatric cancer patients. She was a natural caretaker and cared for family members when they were ill and friends and neighbors in need.
Judith was passionate about the textile arts, and in her retirement enjoyed needlepoint and all types of sewing with dear friends. She was an avid crafter and collector, and opened her home monthly to her stitching group and at Christmas to share her handmade ornaments and Christmas decorations.
Judy was baptized in 1989 at St. Anne’s of the Fields Episcopal Church in Lincoln, Mass. She was an active parishioner for many years, and treasurer of the Church Service League. She participated in many fundraising events over the years, including a craft show that she organized and curated. For years she led the congregation in creating care packages for a shelter in Waltham which housed women and children escaping from domestic violence.
Over the years, Judy held different positions for the Massachusetts Chapter of American Needlepoint Guild as well as the Embroiderers’ Guild of America. At ANG, she was Treasurer and in charge of Hospitality performing both positions for many years. Judy also taught many needlepoint classes, instructing on various stitching techniques, as well as needlepoint and sewing accessories.
Wherever she was, Judy was a leader, a teacher, a contributor, a caregiver and a vivacious community member. She will be missed and remembered for her independent, kind and generous spirit.
A service honoring Judy’s life will be held July 16, 2024 at St. Anne’s in the Fields, 147 Concord Rd. Lincoln, MA at 10 am.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Judy’s memory to the Massachusetts Chapter of the American Needlepoint Guild. Checks should be made out to MA Chapter ANG and sent to:
