

PARK, Dr.Kyung Min, 77, of Weston, Massachusetts,passed away on Friday, June 8, 2012, at the age of 77. A retired physician, Dr. Park had a long and distinguished career as a clinician and educator. Dr. Park was also a prominentmember of the Asian-American community in New England, playing a leadershiprole for a wide range of organizations and projects. Born, educated and serving his medical internship inSeoul, Korea, in the 1960’s Dr. Park servedin South Korean Army as a Captain in theArmy Medical Corps, earned his Ph.D from Seoul National University, served as a professorat the Medical School there, and then roseto head the Anesthesiology Department at the Medical School and University Hospital. In 1969, Dr. Park and his familyimmigrated to the United States, ultimately settling in the Boston area. He wasaffiliated successively with Columbus Medical Center, Mass General Hospital andChildren's Hospital Medical Center, and joined the Anesthesia Department at MetroWestMedical Center in Framingham, where he practiced for 27 years, including aperiod as Chief of Anesthesiology. Dr. Park is a recipient of the Civil Merit Medal from the President of South Korea, as well as a Lifetime Achievement Award from the President of his alma mater, Seoul National University.
Dr. Park wasa longtime leader of the Korean-American community in the New England area. Hewas a founding member of the New England Korean Society, and was a formerChairman of that organization. Dr. Park also spearheaded a wide range ofcommunity and charitable projects within the Korean-American community,including as Chairman of the Council on the Elderly, and Chairman of theorganizing committee for the commemoration of the centennial of the Korean-American community in the Boston area.
The son ofthe late. Sang-Ryup and Chung Park, Dr.Park is survived by his wife of 51 years, Chung Yul (Chang) Park, three sons,David, Robert and James, and six grandchildren, Andrew, Conor, Edward, Ripley,William, and Lara.
Funeralservices will be held on Saturday, June16, at 10 AM at St. John Korean United MethodistChurch, 2600 Massachusetts Ave, Lexington. Relatives and friends kindly invited. Interment will follow at Linwood Cemetery,Weston. Visitation will be held on Thursday,June 14, and Friday, June 15, from 6:00 PM – 9:00PM at Duckett – J.S.Waterman & Sons Home of Memorial Tribute at 656 Boston Post Road (Rte. 20)in Sudbury.
