Margaret Edwards Bowne
We remember our beloved Margaret Bowne (Aunt Marky), daughter of Lon Lovell Nusom and Rufus Byron Edwards. Margaret who passed away peacefully on 12/28/2019. Margaret married and divorced Frederic Martin Bowne. Her children are Melissa Bowne Gulitti (Deceased), Catherine Martin Bowne and Frederic Bowne. Her grand children are Taylor Bowne, Joseph (Jay) Gulitti, Henry Bowne and Theo Bowne. She is also survived by her son-in-law Joseph Gulitti, his family and her many nieces and nephews.
Margaret was born in Runge Texas and graduated from Taft high school in Taft, Texas. She met and married Martin Bowne who was a Marine Navel Aviator at Pensacola Florida and moved to Cambridge, Mass (for Martin’s Law School) and then New York where she raised her family. Margaret became a member of Onteora Club and the Bowne House Historical Society. She enjoyed teaching English language skills to students from Japan. Also, she worked at Publisher’s Clearing House and Home Goods customer service before retiring.
Margaret was an active supporter of the arts. She made costumes for summer theater productions at the Onteora Theater. Margaret was active in Port Washington’s Play Troupe. She played the French Horn, enjoyed singing and as a young woman sang in a barbershop quartet. Margaret loved music, the ballet, theater and was a devoted christian. She was an active member of Saint Stephens Episcopal Church prior to moving to Youville Place in Lexington Massachusetts where she regularly attended services. She loved her friends and community at Youville Place. She also supported efforts to improve the well being of Native American Communities.
Margaret was a very loving, strong and generous person who touched many lives. We will miss her and are grateful for the many family and friends who’ve expressed their sympathies.
