
Margaret Whitney Phillips of Weston, 84, February 24th 2015.
A lifelong resident of Weston, Markie was an alumna of The Winsor School of Boston, Smith College, and Hickox Secretarial School of Boston. For several years she was a secretary to Francis Keppel, then Dean of the Graduate School of Education at Harvard University. She was a Past President and also Chair of the Education Committee of the New England Farm and Garden Association. Markie was an avid bridge player, and served as captain of the Chilton Club bridge team which competed annually in the inter-club bridge league. She was an active member of St. Peter's Episcopal Church of Weston, a member of the Flower Guild there and also Chair of the annual Telephone Book Committee. She was a member of the Fragment Society of Boston, the Weston Garden Club, and the Junior League of Boston where she served as Secretary of the Board.
Markie leaves her devoted husband of 62 years, Edward Everett Phillips of Weston, with whom she enjoyed many travels and sailing trips throughout the world with family and friends, and over thirty years in their summer home on Nantucket. She also leaves their beloved three children and five grandchildren: son John Whitney Phillips of Croton-on-Hudson New York, his wife Emily and sons Everett Phillips and his wife Alexa, and Wesley Phillips; daughter Margaret Jaffray Phillips of Weston; and daughter Nancy Phillips Lorenze of Guilford Connecticut and her husband Mark and children Whitney, Paige and Jack Lorenze. She also leaves her beloved sister Nancy Berglund of Northboro, brother John Amos Whitney and his wife Pat of Plymouth Vermont, and sister-in-law Marty Whitney of Putney Vermont, wife of the late Wilmot Whitney Jr. of Weston; and numerous beloved nieces and nephews. A loving wife, mother, grandmother, aunt, sister and friend, Markie will be greatly missed.
A memorial service is planned for Sunday April 26, 2015 at 2 pm, at St. Peter's Episcopal Church, 320 Boston Post Road, Weston.
In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to the Joan and James Vernon Cancer Center at Newton-Wellesley Hospital; The New England Farm and Garden Association; or Smith College.
