Marguerite M. Farrell (Rita), age 90, of Lee, New Hampshire, peacefully joined her late loved ones and friends to rest eternally in Heaven, on Saturday, November 6, 2021. Rita was born October 19, 1931, in Lynn, Massachusetts to Joseph and Margaret (Buchanan) Walsh.
Rita married the late William S. Farrell (Bill) on September 4, 1954, sharing 48 years of marriage. Besides her husband and parents, she was pre-deceased by her brothers; Joseph (Betty) Walsh, Thomas (Kathy) Walsh, James (Lynne) Walsh, and a beloved granddaughter, Andrea Celeste Morton.
Rita is survived by two brothers; John (Dorothy) Walsh, David (Janice) Walsh, seven loving grandchildren; Brittney Morton, Eric (Meghan) Morton, Joseph Farrell, Robert Farrell, Katie Farrell, Shawn Farrell, Riley Farrell, and several wonderful nieces and nephews.
A graduate of St. Mary’s High School, Rita was proud to share that she went to work at the Lynn City Hall the day after she graduated! Rita was an ambitious go-getter! She delighted in her Scottish roots, her father’s political endeavors, her five handsome brothers, and the exceptional bond she shared with her mom. To Rita, family was everything.
Together Rita and Bill raised four children in Sudbury, MA: Julie (Richard) Morton- NY, David (Heather) Farrell- TX, Peter (Lynne) Farrell- MA, and Mark (Mauricio) Licea-Farrell- CA. Rita lived in Sudbury the majority of her life before relocating to her assisted living residence in New Hampshire. Many of Rita’s special later memories of Sudbury surround her time with good friends in the Frost Farm Village senior community.
Rita was passionate about serving others. Even as an active mom of four involved in teaching CCD, being a Girl Scout leader, and being a professional carpooler, Rita made time to be a Welcome Wagon Hostess, and worked for the Lincoln-Sudbury Town Employees Federal Credit Union for many years until retirement in 1991. As an active member of Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church, Rita served in various leadership roles. The town of Sudbury could always count on Rita to help when ever needed, whether it be at the voting polls, fundraisers, or the Sudbury Historical Commission.
In addition to playing tennis with her Sudbury Swim & Tennis pals, baking, traveling the world by sea and air, and following the Boston Celtics (Larry Bird), Rita’s all-time favorite pastime was playing Bridge! Known for her advanced card playing skills, she remained modest. Instead, she boasted of her partners’ successes, the delicious desserts shared by her bridge groups, and never played for more than 25 cents! Life was about finding the joy in others.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to share in Rita’s fond farewell. Funeral arrangements will be under the direction of the Duckett Funeral Home of J.S Waterman, 656 Boston Post Road (Route 20), Sudbury, MA. Visiting hours will be Sunday, November 14th from 2:00 – 5:00pm.
