Marion (nickname Dev) was born in Tampa, FL on November 2nd, 1932 to parents Aileen Devereaux Woolsey and George Woolsey and lived her tender years in Ft. Myers a rather rural and carefree life. After the death of her father in 1939, Marion and her mother moved to the Boston area, where she attended public schools in Belmont and Winchester, rooted in a friendly community of neighbors and relatives, and graduated from Kendall Hall, private preparatory school in Peterborough, NH. Idyllic summers were spent at camps in New Hampshire and Maine. In 1954, Marion was awarded her bachelor’s degree from Skidmore College in Saratoga Springs, NY as a Business Major and English minor. There at Skidmore, she met her ex-husband William F. Glaser, an RPI student, they quickly married, and lived in various places on the eastern seaboard while Bill was in the Navy, eventually settling in Sudbury, MA.
Dev and Bill had three children, Robert Devereaux (1958), Bradley William (1959), and Christina Aileen (1965), and while raising her children in that social and close knit Sudbury neighborhood, she became known as one of the dependable neighborhood moms to all the children who lived there, and those 1st and 2nd generation friendships she nurtured and maintained all through her life, and they existed until her death. Dev also participated at this time in local town organizations, such as The Sudbury Players, The Garden Club, The Villagers, Council on Aging, and more.
As the children got older, Dev went off to work, starting as a temp at Digital Equipment Corporation and rising through the ranks to Corporate Manager of College Relations/Recruiting. She was thrilled with working–it enabled her responsibilities outside the home and she was able to travel to far flung areas within the United States. She worked there 19 years. She loved travelling, and, during her empty nest years, with a dear college friend, she travelled quite often - her favorite trips included China, Egypt, Russia and Greece, because she loved learning the history of them, but she also went on safari in Africa and a hot air balloon festival in Albuquerque just for pure fun. After the Digital days, Dev held a job at the Selectman’s Office.
Dev was a very social person, skilled at art, enjoyed antiques and was a voracious reader and enthusiastic gardener. She appreciated a clean and tidy house, a fashionable yet conservative wardrobe, and a neat hairdo. At the same time, she was never a person to shy away from adventure or hard work. She was interested in many subjects and was a strong and opinionated woman. She loved her family fiercely, and was pleased to be the matriarch.
Marion leaves behind her three children, five grandchildren–Andrew, Nicholas, Nicole, Reid and Benjamin–and one great grandchild, Sophie. She will be interned at the family plot in Forest Hills Cemetery, Boston, MA.
A visitation will be held at Duckett Funeral Home, located at 656 Boston Post Road, Sudbury, MA, 01776, on Saturday October 4 2025, from 11AM - 12PM.
