Mavis was the 10th of 11 children to be born to the couple. She attended Essex Hall All Ages School. After her education she became a seamstress in St. Andrew, assisting the local community in looking their best. From the 1970s to 1984 she worked part-time doing embroidery for Things Jamaica Limited where she also received a certification of achievement for 3 stars in the field of Ebrodriary Work.
While living in St. Andrew, Jamaica she was a member of the Bethuel Methodist Church, where she insisted that her children attend Sunday School and be active in the church.
In 1984, Mavis immigrated to the United States to join her two older children in Natick, MA. Shortly after, her two youngest daughters and husband joined her. Upon arrival in the United States Mavis received her first job at Brittany Nursing Home in Natick, MA. She later transitioned to Wellesley College where she would begin her career as a member of the Culinary and Custodial staff. After 25+ years serving the students of Wellesley College she retired and began enjoying the fruits of her labor through travel, community involvement, and spending quality time with family.
On October 19, 2003, she was Baptized, received the Right Hand of Fellowship, and became a member of Greater Framingham Community Church. There she served the Lord and her church joyfully. She was involved and served on several ministries namely, The Pastor’s Aide Ministry (as an avid gardener and plant lover, she enjoyed caring for the plants in the sanctuary), Mission and Outreach Ministry (which led her to volunteer at the Pearl Street Cupboard to serve the less fortunate), The Kitchen Ministry (where she later became an honorary member) and the Vacation Bible School (working as part of the Lunch Team).
When she was not serving at the church or helping others Mavis enjoyed spending her time with family, visiting new countries and cities, baking her annual holiday Jamaican rum cakes and shopping with her daughters and granddaughters.
Mavis was preceded by her parents, Inez and Ezekiel Brown and her 11 siblings. She leaves behind her husband Davan Chung. Four children, Argella Morton, Lloydton Ximines (Margo Ximines), Almarie Dawkins (Patrick Dawkins) and Celanie Simpson (Paul Simpson); Six grandchildren, Omarr Ximines, Ashley Denham (Adeewah Denham), Tyler Ximines, Matthew Morton, Kala Dawkins and Jalen Simpson; and one great-grandchild Chriselle Denham; and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
